Longer Z-A Trailer:
You know call me the spoilsport but my god I still can't believe that games horrifically dated visuals. Like I can ignore a lot of things for Art style but like every single building in that video just has a flat 2D Jpeg slapped on every side as texture, even banisters are part of it. Ya
h I know thats normal for Pokemon but fuck me you'd think with all the money and scummy Patents they're filing to go after Palworld they might just instead try making a good game that looks like any effort was put into it.
But yah Nov 20th for Kirby Airriders is nice, gives me time to save up for a Switch 2.
Also my god people still crying about poor AI slop Palworld.
I mean, yeah if I'm shelling out 500 clams to buy a new console, I absolutely care about graphics. If it's something the prior gen can reasonably handle, then it should come out there instead.
ps2 graphics on ps2? awesome no complaints, but if I get ps3 graphics on a ps5 game for example, yeah I'm gonna have a problem. No reason I need a machine that powerful to play something I coulda played on ps3/ps4
I couldn’t also care less about graphics and prioritize artistic design in a Pokemon game but I understand people who wants to see some improvement on a new console.
It sorta feels like Nintendo is the least prepared developer for Switch 2. If it wasn’t for titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars Outlaws I’d seriously doubt consoles capabilities but thanks to those we know its a demon for an handheld.
Square Enix also said that FFRemake looks and plays very well on Switch 2.
With Requiem lined up as well, hopefully people start putting some pressure on Nintendo for better first party games.
I own my Switch 2 since release and it has been mostly a Switch 1 with a better screen for me, I’ve been playing 85% S1 titles and Mario Kart etc. every now and then.
Yah I actually like effort put into my games. I dont need every game to look like FF7 Remake, but when 90% of the environment I'm looking at is some variation of a Default Cube Model plastered with a Window.Jpeg Texture set to "Fill", it detracts from the experience.
And if you're a gameplay kind of guy, which fair, me too, then we can argue about the recycled battle animations they've been reusing since like.. i want to say.. Black and White was the first 3D Pokemon DS game? I mean we could definitely put a little more effort into the gameplay so that several Pokemon or moves don't just use 1 of like 3 janky canned animations that barely match whats happening on screen. Or god forbid the "Default Idle animation rotating left and right" stuff.
PS1 games were pushing technology to their limit. Gamefreak ain't even trying. Guarantee you no one would complain if they just released 2D games instead of their 3D trash.
This shitty attitude is why modern AAA games suck you do realize this right?

I care a lot less about graphics then I do about Frame Rate, I'd rather play a game at 60-120 consistent FPS that looks a bit worse then play a beautiful game that runs at 30 FPS.
I'm not a big pokemon fan, but it doesn't really lend itself to realistic graphics. Certainly ground textures and such could be better, but kids don't really give a damn about that; by and large they just want catch them all, which the games deliver on, and thusly make money.
No its not.
Yes some studios focus way too much on graphics and that bloats a budget, thats a fair criticism, but I'm not asking for Pokemon to be Photo realistic(and that statement applies to you too Kachiko). I dont want them to individually animated and rig the hairs on Mr Mimes asshole. I'm saying that their current quality is distractingly fucking awful for a full priced AAA title on next gen hardware. This isn't a F2P or $20 budget title from an Indie studio, its a SEVENTY DOLLAR(for Switch 2, I think its only 60 on Switch) game from the largest media franchise on the planet by the order of Billions of dollars.
Theres certainly a middle ground between "Every individual peach fuzz hair on Alloys face has its own AI for blowing in the wind" and "Dropping a Default Cube with a Window texture spread across it and calling it a day". I don't need 8k window reflections, I'm saying some of the assets visible in that video look like something you make in your first 6 months of college as a student project. Seriously those Buildings are just Default Cubes with a repeating texture slapped on them. This is the kind of graphics fucking backround buildings had in N64 racing games you were never meant to actually look at for more than a second as you flew by, and I bet I could even dig through those and find some with more effort put in to model railings. Are our standards for Pokemon and Nintendo so low that modeling a banister is some fucking posh expectation?
Like I can't stress enough this isn't about wanting ultra realistic next gen Piss filter lens flair, its about wanting the game they expect me to drop $70 bucks on to actually look like it belongs on the Switch 2 and that Gamefreak actually put some level of effort into making an Aesthetically pleasing world you can immerse yourself into. Its not a Stylistic choice to copy past lazy assets into your game, its just cheap.
Games are a sum of their parts, and graphics are one of those parts. But Graphics doesn't mean 8k Resolution. Art styles, Aesthetic choices, all of those things matter when considering the direction you want your game to take. As an example Geometry Dash, I think is the name of it, is a game thats almost exclusive just flat colored cubes and shapes, the graphics suit the relatively simple and accessible nature of the game. Elden Ring as the inverse would still be a wonderful game, but would it hold the same place in your memory if every asset in it was some garbage bought off the Epic Game UE Store? Art direction(I.E Graphics) can lend themselves to improving the experience of the game as much as they can hurt the game if they're bad enough.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
Also, on the topic of ridiculous patents, let's not forget they just claimed another one for fighting using summoned characters, meaning that theoretically they could now go after a ton more games than Palworld
As for the whole graphics debacle... I don't care if the game has weaker graphics because of a limited budget or team capabilities, or when it's an artistic decision and done with taste and care. But Pokémon is neither of that, it's just laziness. Sure, the game's are still fun to play, but I'm not gonna act like I don't see what they're doing (or rather not doing) for them.
I have zero sympathy for Palworld even if they didn't copy assets directly from Pokemon games they where blatantly poking the bear with those designs on top of AI use.
$70 base game with PS3 graphics in 2025
3 kalos starter megas are paywalled, staggered, timed releases locked behind switch online
2 raichu megas are paywalled behind $30+ DLC announced before the base game releases
Pokemon sent to Z-A are abandoned there, they can't be transferred back to Home or any other title
Don't buy this garbage. Be outraged by the greed.
this is the second time you’ve mention AI use in the game, can you provide some evidence for this? Ive done my best to come up with something through google-fu and nothing substantiated came up.
Edit: also I just saw they’re releasing a Pokemon Minecraft like game huh.
