Will be the reason I'll probably ignore the Switch 2 for half of its generation, like I did with the Switch 1. Switch was a friggen dry desert for years for anyone that owned a WiiU or a PS3/360.
Steam Deck also being a thing these days tempts me more than a Switch 2, unless Nintendo comes out firing on all cylinders with the big name titles.
if we get anything like a new 3D Mario, Zelda, Prime 4, or a new Xenoblade at launch then it'll be a day 1 for me
Some Hard R Canadian compiled the rumours to speculate on the specs:
TLDW:
- Nvidia CPU GML X30-R-A1 (5nm custom version of Nvidia Tegra T239).
- Custom Ampere GPU architecture (similar to Nvidia GeForce 3000 Series which comes with 8th-generation NVENC video encoding).
- 12GB LPDDR5X RAM clocked at 7500 MT/s.
- 256GB UFS 3.1 internal storage at 2100 MB/s and expandable via microSD Express.

Just like modern disc games, pretty much just novelty
Discs usually at least have the v1.0 of the game, compressed.
Well, I don’t like this especially on a handheld console but we as gamers asked for it. The more they shoved us the “you don’t really own the game you are only licensed to play as long as we allow you to”, the more we fell for the convenience of digital.
In a couple of years down the road console gaming will be something like PC/Steam, completely digital. This is especially annoying in a handheld console, where you’d like to grab a game at an airport, like an airport paperback and play it on the go. No bitch, you can’t. You’ve got to wait until a non shitty hotel connection or ‘till you get back home. Meanwhile enjoy your box.
I could try to rationalize the cost of higher-capacity cartridges but no, they are increasing the price AND taking the physical away.
I said it to my friend when he showed me that post. Of course Nintendo would be the brand that kills physical games and game preservation because of this. It makes sense now why they announced that game sharing feature a little bit ago.
*Edit* That is if its a blanket across the board decision, something tells me that some games can still fit on a cartage and still be playable without downloading, but I am waiting until actual release day now to see how its all handled.
Actually this is a perfect time for a community backlash, similar to Ps3/Vita store closures. Nintendo can’t take such risk right before their biggest release ever.
But will it happen? Of course not. I checked the chat during Direct and fans were busy going crazy over…Gamecube games…with all CAPS “GAMECUBE OMG”
There will be no real backlash.
People will suck it up like they always do because it's Nintendo and they want their Pokemon and Mario
Publishers already were being cheap about buying 32gb carts, let alone 16gb ones, on Switch 1. Most of them will just opt for demo on an 8gb cart + download the rest for Switch 2, given most last-gen titles were 20gb+.
What will hurt though is it only having 256gb internal storage. Should have just included a 512gb MicroSD at that point.
So basically any game that has that QR code I will only buy digitally it seems, not gonna waste money on an "empty" box.
I didn't watch the direct but seeing that they're including a tech demo "game" like Astro's Playroom except it's something you have to actually pay for? Nintendo is pushing new boundaries of scumminess
No backwards compatibility with physical games because the Switch 2 is new from the ground up.
Switch 2 will naturally play Switch 1 games at a better framerate and resolution even if you don't buy the upgrade. Also, the eShop now has "suggested games" based on your play history.
ROFL what a joke imagine announcing that this would be backwards compatible then telling the physical only plebs to eat a dick.

Everything that was built around the Switch 1 Joy-Cons will require those Joy-Cons to play on the Switch 2. Like Labo and 1-2 Switch.
This. Unfortunate too. I got the Switch mainly for my son a few years back. 75% of our games are cartridge. He's 11 now so we have a big selection of games still to get from the NSW library in years to come. By the time he's a teen he'll prob skip the NSW2 (which would have been tempting had we been able to play all our old cartridge games) and keep to PC stuff like I do mostly.
