Nintendo did an amazing job at hyping me for the switch 2 then deflating it at the same time.

Mistranslation or something? Their other page here mentions physical here.
I for one am outraged I can't play the hit classic 1 2 switch with switch 2 joycons.

I think I remember from Direct that Switch 1 cartridges being fully compatible with Switch 2.
At the end of this it says
So it seems clear that physical will work.In addition to Nintendo Switch 2 games, Nintendo Switch 2 can play compatible physical and digital games that have been released on Nintendo Switch. Some Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.
What I'd mainly like to know is if playing the XC (aside from X) will see a performance improvement just natively running it, or if there'd be an update patch. Would really love to experience those games with better framerate/resolution.
Yes, better hardware should naturally mean the games will run smoother. Just like when you OC Switch or play on an emu.
A bit of both probably. For regular games you may see slightly better frame rates but for games specifically enhanced for Switch 2 (like Zelda's) the difference will likely be much more pronounced.
I expect it to be like PS5 Pro enhanced games, a non enhanced game like FFXVI only sees minor frame rate improvements while enhanced Rebirth turns into a beast in Pro.
Preorders delayed in the US due to tarrifs:
https://www.engadget.com/gaming/nint...150747208.html"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions," the company told Engadget. "Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged."
Damn, as if you guys didn't have enough reasons to rage already

Corporate mumbo jumbo. Just say “costs are increasing a bit and we see people are buying our stuff so we want to maintain our profitability, perhaps wanting to increase it some.”
There has has been inflation for the last 20 years and such but hardware production costs have steadily decreased until COVID….then was an uptick, which was way easily compensated by the mind blowing increase in demand. In terms of games the near total domination of digital, which eliminates the middleman, logistics costs, physical and such helped with the profitability immensely. Online capabilities hit piracy hard as well.
At least for the big guys like Nintendo, Sony, MS this move has was an attempt to increase profitability rather than to maintain it. This of course does not take into the considetation the recent tariff developments. Whether they’ll reflect it to the customers further will depend largely on how the economy as a whole will act.
I'm really surprised people keep calling the console overpriced. It's actually cheaper than what I expected it to be considering its specs. The peripherals and games are another story obviously
A big appeal at the initial launch of the Switch was the lower price point. This now costs the same or more than the current systems from Microsoft/Sony
It doesn't help that the japanese language only version costs $330~
But will the Switch 2 have blast processing in addition to variable pricing?
