Raising the prices of every game to 80/90 when we've barely had 70 for a few years? Definitely skyrocketed. Don't get me started on the key card BS.
I ain't giving into Nintendo's terrorism unless Smash or Xeno come out
We always say “vote with your wallet.”
But for people to actually take action to protest against unnecessarily skyrocketed prices, is a completely different story, very good chance people never act on what they preach.
This stupid console/games/peripherals going for absurd prices, people won’t listen.
GPUs skyrocketing to prices higher than a car down payment, yeah, people still buy and we keep giving nvidia money.
People never learn and refuse to protest against these retarded ass prices.
now i'm gonna buy two of em
Imagine thinking video games are too expensive these days when they are literally one of the only things on the planet that are cheaper than they were 30 years ago. GPU's and Computer parts are insanely expensive, but consoles have barely increased in price since the 90's and game prices have are actually lower.
a valid point but it is kinda crazy just how much cheaper games have gotten. i imagine most of us only kind of remember the good ol days because a lot of it was our parents buying us games, but Ocarina of Time was $60 on release ($117 today), Link to the Past $50 ($114 today). even console-wise the Switch 2 is pretty much around the historical norm with the N64 being $430 in today's money, the SNES $460.
it is a great tenant of gamers to bitch and moan, like saying damn vidya sucks these days when the truth is we're in a golden age if you can step away from AAA-slop. but price corrections were inevitable with how stagnant gaming prices have been for decades and how hard inflation has hit.
Nintendo is obv more exploitative than any going for $80 games, and the juice better be worth the squeeze. personally kinda interested to see which one i'll break for tbh. nothing on release really screams to me but Mario Kart, which when bundled is only $50. prolly whatever comes first between Smash and Zelda.
I don't expect to hear anything about smash for a while to come. Sakurai throws himself at his work and he's currently directing kirby air riders. It's not like him to work on more than one game at once. Unless that game is already done, Smah development hasn't even started yet
Agreed here. On that note, I think the rise (and increased accessibility) of PC gaming has - in part - led to the increase of console and console game prices. More specifically, I think digital storefronts like Steam and Epic offering such a wide variety of games (at a wide variety of price points) has, in a way, forced the hands of The Big 3.
In an age of Number Must Go Up, it makes less sense to spend $80 on a potentially unoptimized piece of AAA slop (don't even get me started on the state of modern games on release...) when you could instead get 4 different $20 games for the same price. As a result, companies have had to start charging more (and reducing expenses, see: the surge in industry layoffs) for consoles and games in order to maintain continuous growth.
The price of the console itself is $449. I think that's not too bad considering today's climate. It probably will be 500+ next year. Think about all the things it can do also. I never could have imagined it back in the old days. I say just buy it if you have the money that is.
I look forward to what you guys think of it.

What other things can it do? I'm pretty sure they've already said that none of the streaming services will have apps for it.
