the biggest disagreement I have with that is at least when I paid 75 bucks for SF2 on the SNES, I got Street Fighter 2. None of this DLC or promised roadmap live service bullshit. If they want me to pay 60-80 bucks for a game, it should be the complete fucking game.

i actually think continued support is one of the triumphs of the modern era. horse armor DLC is one thing, a terrible thing, but a lot of games have gotten extraordinary amounts of content and/or come back from busted states to become good games, when in yesteryear they simply would have been failures.

exempli gratia, the Total War franchise is one of my favorites and their Warhammer franchise has come from 11 lords and a single continent of 53 provinces in 2016 to its current state of 100 lords and the entire Warhammer Old World map with 532 provinces. and most of that development possible because of a slow-drip of DLC support over the last 9 years. it's an absolute triumph of strategy gaming which wouldn't have been possible in any other climate. similar journeys for Paradox business like Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings 3.

doesn't excuse the practice of releasing a broken game and tryna patch it into something decent, but for patient gamers who can wait for things like ultimate/collected editions most games become far better over time than they were on release which ain't something that used to happen. and some genres really benefit from multi-year road-maps, even decade-long post-release support, to get into the grandest of strategy states.

that said does feel good when you purchase something once and it is indeed a complete experience like BG3. but even there you got oodles of FLC that turned it into a better game 18 months on.

REGARDLESS FUCK ALL THIS NERD SHIT WHO TRYNA GET SMOKED ON RAINBOW ROAD

No because the physical game doesn't cost that much anymore. It's just greedflation.

GOTY 2025 released at $50 btw.

$65 for a Gamecube controller and Switch Online is required for use.
I don't think I've heard of subscription-required hardware since legit the Sega Channel

Actually the subscription is required to order it. I don't think it would actually disable the controller, but you also can't play GameCube games without a subscription either.

Yeah, I figured the games would be expansion-locked. Still wild that you need it just to *buy* the controller. But then I'm also of the belief that charging more than like $40 for a controller is too much. Guess it means less to worry about for the 3rd party market at least.

How many games supported the actual Gamecube controller on Switch 1 besides Smash? Disregarding that this is Switch 2-only. Only real incentive I'd have for ordering that controller is just a wireless Gamecube-like controller (since it'll probably be a garbage analog stick like the N64 one) for my PC.

I still should probably pick up the N64 one at some point though.

It's because it's wireless and has all the Switch 2 functions built in. That's about it. You can accomplish the same with a Pro controller they're just cashing in on nostalgia.

You're buying it for F-Zero GX basically, because there's still no analog triggers on any of the other controllers last I looked. I'm assuming this controller handles like the original though where the shoulder buttons also have a click when bottomed out. The store-page is rather non-descript about the functionality.

In Spain right now and there are hundreds in stock, “lines” are virtually non existent, no one bought any during the 30 mins I spent in the store (got a carry case) Wish I didn’t preorder so I could just take one out of store :/

I don't have the heart to grab a controller and obliterate my kids at Mario Kart since this is their first new console release... But they'll have to learn somehow who the mountain king is.
