I don't have any faith in Republicans at all but the some odd 55-60% of the rest of the country surely isn't THAT apathetic. If that kind of thing happened and everyone still went "meh, anyway, coffee at 9?" I'm out of here.

Republicans repeatedly running over protestors over the years has been that proverbial "moment" but it's basically been a wet fart of response. Same with cops or ICE beating people up and technically being the ones starting riots. If the question of how big a massacre we need to get people truly angry, I dunno, but it's also a safe bet 30% of the country would say the victims deserved it.

Overall, I kinda circle back to the idea that the US is too big for outrage to matter and people are too financially strained to fight back. If something egregious were to happen in DC, it'd be unlikely someone from CA could uproot themselves, fly/drive there, and join up in whatever counter-moment. All they can just do is sigh, gripe on SM, and maybe join a more local protest if one even forms. But then you're just being an inconvenience to those that don't give a shit. BLM was probably the closest we'll get to meaningful protest and unfortunately it took jobs being shut down by COVID to even make that possible.
