Yeah. I guess when I say "Remake" I think more along the lines of keeping the main story intact, but updated sprites, like maaaaybe some new side content or expanded scenes. Or even say, like "Delita's route".

Something more akin to Tales of Destiny Director's Cut.

The Ivalice "chronicles"... when its just one game? There are, what, 5 games that feature Ivalice? This should have been the "Durai" chronicles, as the Durai papers were the text associated with the story of FFT.

Updated (smooth-filtered) sprites, zero enhancements to the background. Couldn't get Sakamoto in the studio to do an updated song or two? Nothing?

Pass. Hard pass. In-battle voice acting ain't enough for me. I didn't expect more, but I wasn't going to settle for this when I have about 10 versions of this game both vanilla and modded.

I use mine when portable, so I'm usually not playing AAA style games on it. Console emulation, metroidvania style games, jrpg's, that is where it still shines. If I want to play Doom Dark Ages or Cyberpunk or something else demanding, that's what my desktop PC is for.

You misunderstand. I don't want the original game. I have that three times over; two original copies plus the 300 vanilla and modded roms over the three decades of this game existing. My online name has been fucking Lucavi since 1997: I ain't hurting for passion towards the game, or ways to play the original.

I wanted a better game. A game worthy of the impact FFT had on gaming and a proper display of what 2025 TRPGs can look like; let alone improvements to the original Matsuno formula. An actual decent class for 4th chapter Ramza. Pixel art of the quality of Triangle Strategy or Octopath. A revamped score akin to Tactics Ogre (who received TWO: one during the original PSP remaster and again a few years ago) and new content. If you're going to call the game "chronicles of Ivalice", it'd have also been nice to have literally any other game featuring Ivalice bundled with it. Vagrant Story? FFTA(2)?

The ability to play something old officially on something new may give others full chubs, but not me: I've always been a fan and a user of emulation, so any old game I can already play on just about any device I own. The title deserved more than some modern UI touches, Ben Starr grumbling as Dycedarg (love the man but I ain't paying $50 bucks just to hear a voice actor), smoothed over sprites and the mildest of texture garnishes of the extremely aged backgrounds. Hopefully the "rebalancing" adds some fucking HP to the Lucavi bosses so chapter 4 isn't a hilarious stomp of every "powerful" Lucavi. Alas, poor Aldramech: we hardly knew ye! Maybe they'll raise the % chance of actually seeing any of the cool enemy-only spells possessed but-never-used by the bosses. Bio 3? Flare 2? Quake 2? Tornado?

This'll satisfy some; something always satisfies someone. This was nowhere near enough for me.

Oh, right, there was nothing mentioned about redoing the music was there? No re-arrangement, or sourcing the original samples so it doesn't sound blatantly PS1-quality like they did when lifting some of the music for XIV. FFTA got a soundtrack redo awhile back for a CD release, but no idea if FFT got something similar.

Yeah I would have loved a Tactics Ogre/Triangle Strategy graphical overhaul but having the WotL version on Steam vs. an old phone (that I never got rid of especially because of the WotL save file that isn't Cloud compatible) was enough to lure me in.
