I mean, I bought Tactics Ogre Reborn even though I can play it on an emulator, mostly to show to SE that there's a demand for SRPGs and the series in general. I get that that's just bullshit hopium or whatever but just feel like I gotta do my part since I love the series/genre.

I'm also just SRPG starved to fucking hell so anything that gets put in my face I'll lap up

I'm with Lucavi on this one. If you've never played it before, okay, fine; it's an old game that was fantastic for it's time. There's something to be said for making a game available on today's platforms (and this is one of them worthy of doing so) but it pales to giving us a FFT2 or the like.

FFT2 will never satisfy you or any of the OG fans lol. The window for that to have come out has come and gone. Instead they did the lesser GBA games which were fine but were never going to hit the highs of FFT.

Who are you to tell us what would satisfy us? You have no idea what would or would not unless we say tell you. The 1997 or WoTL FFT isn't so monolithic that only -it- can satisfy a craving for a game like it. I've probably put more hours into the indie TRPG Fell Seal than I did all my copies of FFT simply because of the modern features such as adjustable difficulty, enemy equipment, density and damage features. The difficulty doesn't break to absolute shit in the 4th chapter with so-called "bosses" falling over after 2 attacks (even without Orlandeau), for one, but hey, maybe these "re-balances" will address that.

A tactics 2 absolutely could have satisfied. Triangle Strategy-esque sprite with a Matsuno story. Modern features, such as the previously stated. Not this smeared-over phone filter look, with barely any attention given to 30-year-old backgrounds, and zero re-scored tracks (in additional to the originals). When I picked up Tactics Ogre on the PSP 15 years ago, I got a completely re-done OST. Then they did it AGAIN 10+years later with Reborn. We couldn't get a few updated songs 30 years later with this game?

We'll see when it comes out, but psh, what a paltry showing based on what limited information they've (chosen to) show(n).

I recall playing a FFT kind of game on the GBA I think, loved it. IDK how FFT fans felt about it, but it was the one where you did Bounty board stuff, you "placed" locations as you unlocked them on the map, and its the one that had Judges that would penalize you if you broke whatever rule was on the field at the time (Not a fan of judges lol).

But anyway, they could 100% make a sequel to FFT, so long as the original creator is on board, that genre (and tbh some of the amazing 2.5 graphic stuff we've seen since Octopath) opens up a lot of doors for both gameplay and cinematic improvements to the series. You can't please every nerd, but for sure it would not be hard.

    Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

That its sequels were actually pretty fun games. At the time I recall people being pretty annoyed that it wasn't in the same beat as the original tactics.

You know a FFT2 would never satisfy you because they gave it to you in FFTA and here you are ignoring it's existence.

I've never been a mobile gamer, so why would a mobile game "satisfy" me when I play console/PC? Now if I shat on Ogre Tactics because it wasn't FFT2, then sure, but I don't and I won't. I like to play the next step forward after so many years of technological/system improvement.

I don't consider handheld games to be the same as the mobile trash that comes out these days

Yeah, I'd say there's a definite distinction between old handheld and modern mobile. Games being complete being the big one.

That said, I think the major beef people had with FFTA is that it was pretty much a superficial siphoning of the FFT name. Much like how the old Saga Fronter GB games got renamed to Final Fantasy for brand recognition, this had a similar vibe. Going from a more mature setting to almost child-like didn't help even if serious issues did happen along the way. The judge/penalty system was a mixed bag, and I err toward not well-received. As far as sequels go, I'd say SE violated the concept of taking what had been established and building on it. You could turn around and say they just did what FF does by reinventing the wheel every game, but since we only had 2 instances of it (or 3 if you include the now defunct WotV), it's hard to say if intended or mistake. There's also the stigma of handhelds being where IPs go to die with an expectantly lower developer cost and projected return. It's frankly the same argument as people wanting AAA turn-based RPGs with all the style and polish despite industry resistance, just with a different skin. When you downgrade your effort, you can't expect higher reward.

Making a sequel to something that was meant to be self contained is hard.

Even just Square has had misses with doing direct sequels to entries in it's own IP. Chrono Cross suffered from straying too far from Trigger, then we got FFX-2...

If you want a sequel to FFT, play FFTA. It's not a mobile game

Ignoring it? Who's the company who titled this "Chronicles of Ivalice" yet included no games that feature Ivalice aside from this one?

SE's ignoring them, not me. I already said they should have included FFT:A, A2 and Vagrant Story in this little remaster, yet crickets from the men of the hour. I wonder why? I've also played and beaten both TA and A2; old hat. Luso is a stupid protagonist; mercifully, the supporting cast (and antagonists) carry the load. A2 could have used its own sequel, given the 30 loose ends that were left unresolved by the end of the game.

What a stupid argument to make.

So it sounds like they made FFT sequels, and you didn't like them. Like someone above mentioned would be the case.

Final Fantasy Tactics is still there for you to enjoy.

    Luso has a dumb hat.

That said Van's Sky Pirate costume was cool.

I did enjoy A2, but it did feel like it ended a bit abruptly.

I don't know if I'd call FFTA a sequel so much as a successor or another entry? A2 was certainly a sequel.

But I think the thing that might be getting missed in all of this, where many of us (I hope?) do agree is we'd like to see more games (preferably strat RPG) set in Ivalice.

I agree that I wish this original tactics team made more strat RPG, but IDK if that's cause I actually reallyyyy enjoy Srpg, or I just really loved the universe, setting, plot, and music of FFT. No other Srpg has ever hit the same for me

I'd have really enjoyed a prequel, personally. Something set during the 50 years war maybe?
