McDavid had two chances in a row and got beat worse the second time than the first. IDK how you can justify spending McDavid money (or more) on one player and still think your team can win it all. You're only handicapping yourself.

Depends on how bad a player wants to win. In the case of Kaprizov, it's all money. He doesn't give 2 shits about the cup. And why would he? I doubt Obs and Scheifele were growing up like "Yo, I can't wait to one day go across the ocean and hoist the Gagarin Cup."

The Oilers kneecapped themselves with the Nurse deal. Yes he's overpaid, but it's led to nobody on that team is gonna take less, because if you're stupid enough to give Darnell 9, you're gonna pay me too. Is Bouch 10.5? Nope. But if Nurse is 9, then Bouch is 10.5 easily. If Connor really cared about 100% winning, nothing less, from the get go, he'd have done a Crosby deal. Do the gimmick on your number and sign for 9.7 - is it a bargain? Absolutely, but you leave cap space to bring in other help.

Would be miserable for Wild fans to wait for Kaprizov to come over for half a decade, have him for just as long while in buyout hell hampering their competitiveness, and then have him bolt at first opportunity.

I imagine a short term deal is possible unless he really wants to gtfo. But this also smells like another case of the Rangers manifesting demand by simply being the Rangers.
