Big part of the reason I barely speak to my dad anymore, if I'm honest. He's an alcoholic and I know he's driven drunk before despite me being available 24/7 for a ride. The accident was 12 years ago, he visited me once in the hospital buzzed and I told him point blank I'll call him for father's day and his birthday so he can't use me as an excuse to kill himself but as long as he's drinking I never want to see him again.

And I haven't seen him since.

No cap, McDavid signs for 20mil+ now doesn't he? Unless he wants to take the Bennett/Reinhart/Panthers route and give very team friendly deals to help build a team around them, which I doubt cause he would have done so already tbh.

8x17 is insane for someone who is essentially rookie with an already extensive injury history. The Wild learned nothing from Suter/Parise lol.

I get being desperate to keep your star in a market like that, but come on.

This deal goes against what has been working with past cup champs.

Spread out the cap, have great team depth. That is what makes a winner.

Minny won't be winning anything anytime soon, even with a rising cap. One player does not make that much of an impact. Every cup winner in the last decade had a mix of star talent that were paid reasonably so that their teams could have the depth needed to go on a successful run and it has also helped all of these teams keep their competetive windows open even after winning their cups (excluding PTT now since father time is breathing down their necks).

There was a story going around that when he initially shot down 8x16 from the Wild, that the ask was supposed to increase per year with the cap. Though it's hard to predict where the cap goes since it's only been projected out for 3 seasons? 4?
But it was something along the lines of "If it's 16m in year 1, it better be 22+ by year 8" type thing.
