JD Vance asked Ukraine to stop attacking the Kazakh oil export route in Russia.

Vance made the request during a July 31 phone call with Zelensky as Washington sought to prevent attacks that could disrupt global oil markets and affect US companies involved in transporting Kazakh crude through Russia.

Ukraine agreed not to target infrastructure belonging to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) or non-Russian vessels, unless they are under Ukrainian sanctions or carrying Russian oil or other Russian cargo, the FT reported.

Ukraine has not attacked tankers near the CPC terminal since the request was made.

The CPC pipeline carries oil from Kazakhstan to a terminal near Novorossiysk. It handles about 80% of Kazakhstan’s oil exports and nearly 2% of global crude supplies, according to Reuters. US companies Chevron and ExxonMobil hold stakes in the consortium and in major Kazakh oil fields served by the route.

Ukraine only agreed because it could affect their agreement with the US to acquire patriot missiles.

WSJ: CIA Director Ratcliffe arrived in Moscow after the US gathered intelligence indicating mobilization preparations and plans to test NATO's resolve.

Former Deputy Director of US National Intelligence Beth Sanner told the publication that Ratcliffe may have met with Putin to deliver a warning along the lines of: "We know what you are going to do, and you'd better not do it."

Rumors are going around that Russia wants to pull back from Ukraine, and attack the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) instead. They are NATO countires, so they will invoke article 5.

US wants to put the Kremlin under pressure by revealing their plan, and it has to be quite concerning if Ratcliffe goes there, thats only necessary if a red line has to be drawn.

The more I read about this the more I think this might actually be a serious threat of escalation from Russia and less so Trump goons being corrupt (though they certainly are)

It appears that intel from NATO among others thinks Putin is/was considering desperate measures to try to salvage his position as a conqueror to the milquetoasts in Moscow who are still very pro-war (really, pro Russian imperialism)

Tactical nukes? Baltics invasion? Who knows, maybe.
