    Laptop shutting off while gaming

Pretty much that, just started less than 24hrs ago. I can watch movies and browse just fine, but i'm not lasting longer than 5 mins in any game before it takes a poop. Memory/cpu not maxing out or anything and this even takes place with fall guys, so it's def not the GPU.

It's an asus tuf gaming f15 fx507zI4_fx507zi; i7-12700H, 2.3Ghz, both integrated and dedicated GPU (dedicated kicks in when needed, GeForce RTX 4070 mobile); 32gb of ram.

Have had a cooling pad since day 1 and this computer has never been on without it; haven't a clue of where to even begin on this one

See if the fans need cleaning, otherwise you probably need to replace the thermal material/paste

Pretty sure 99% of the answers you gonna get are going to point to heat related issues, so clean that laptop up.

Use something like HWiNFO to keep an eye on your temps.

Other issues might be PSU/battery related, try to run games unplugged if it still happens.

    Otherwise MemTest86 that shit up.

Got an eletric duster coming tomorrow was only 10 bucks more than the compressed air pack, so no reason not to have a perma option. It's a dual gpu laptop (integrated and dedicated) i can't play any real games but if i force all apps to integrated gpu i'm having no issues so I just downloaded some emulators and i'm playing Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo for tonight. Only thing I hate about this laptop is that the fans aren't accessible w/o taking it apart (i remember my first laptop those fans were just straight up on the bottom). I had to take it apart a few months ago to upgrade the ram and it was a pain in the ass, so not looking forward to repeating that process.

That's the duster i ended up ordering https://www.amazon.com/Compressed-Ad...45&sr=8-3&th=1

Sounds like a temp issue, the fan is probably clogged

I ghetto fixed a few overheating laptops using a toothbrush since the buildup of gunk in these tiny GPU and CPU fans can be too much for a duster to clean.

I'm pretty sure hundreds of people will claim this can damage the fans and cause static damage to electronics, so do whatever with that advice.

If the laptop is turned off (which why the fuck would you do that while it's on) that wouldn't hurt anything.

I actually have damaged a piece of silicon with static electricity many many years ago so I know it's not impossible, but yeah you gotta really be careless and a final destination series of events have to happen to be that unlucky

You're right here; lmao straight up got a brush/eletric air thing cleaned out both fans (which were gunked up) 0 issue; so was like maybe time for thermal paste ordered thermal paste my friend came over to help (he builds desktops though is not versed in laptops; but he's familair with thermal paste) 13 screws to get access to the cpu/gpu, got to the last 5 torque screws; tight ones couldn't do it with a hand tight torque screwdriver, brought it to some place where the dude wanted to charge 40 bucks to remove 5 screws; (we straight up said just gotta remove the screws we'll do the rest thermal paste; put it back together) he said 40 bucks, lmao he only got 2 off, and stripped the other 3 in the process; so we just told him fk you not paying; our deal was 5 screws for 40 you did 2? no pay; just give me my shit back.

So taking it to someone tomorrow i explained the situation he said i have a 50 dollar minimum but that's for an hour so i'll remove the screws do the paste, put it back on for you and put the casing back on as long as i can do it in an hour; so hoping for the best; doesn't hurt that it's walking distance from my house (12 mins; so like a 5 min bike ride)

Unless your laptop is like 7 or 8 years old you're probably fine to just not repaste it. More headache than what its worth and you probably wouldn't even notice a thermal difference, especially if you don't have prior numbers to go off of for a median.

Keep the fans and vents clean and clear and everything else will run smoothly until the bearings get fucked in the fans.

was able to get to the fans, they were caked up; nothing but dust cleaned them to look brand new and 0 difference put it back together, got a new cooling pad (mine was 2 years old); couldn't run fall guys still shut off (hence the paste route) laptop runs youtube, netflix fine, soon as i turn on a game, gets hot and shuts off

if you have HWINFO64 running while you boot up a game and start, or MSI Afterburner, are you seeing what GPU temps are hitting?

Yeah, might be time to call Asus and see about an RMA if under warranty.

For future reference, be patient with screws. Google the types of screws used in that specific model and buy/find proper screwdriver for it.

You are screwed if you end up stripping them. Whole ifixit sets costs a fraction of what you’ve paid to those guys.

was a 1 year warranty i'm a few months away from year 2; I can still do emails and watch youtube and stuff but this is dead as a gaming machine. Most i can do is a genesis emulator. idk if it's software because idk the % chance of cpu and gpu fans dying at the same time but i'm getting 0rpm from either; had to completely disable gpu (my laptop has integrated and dedicated; dedicated had to go any time it was activated i'd shut off within 5 mins) but yeah cpu and gpu hitting 0rpm at the exact same time is just too werid to be a coincidence

I had a lemon of a laptop like this in grad school. My school paid for the extended warranty, so when I started melting it down in year 2 (by playing two instances of FFXI simultaneously on a cooling pad, gasp), a tech got sent out to replace the heat sink, motherboard, fucking everything. Considering basically everything but the keyboard and screen got replaced, my conclusion was ultimately that the computer was just poorly designed and couldn't distribute heat.

wondering if the fan controller possibly died, or got disabled in BIOS. But you should at least be having a low spin of the fans on idle in that thing. As much as Armory Crate is essentially aids from Asus, have you installed it to get all the hardware/firmware drivers and bios updated?

I can't remember if it has a built in diagnostic tool to try to narrow down the problem.
