The 50 year loan is obviously very dumb, but your point is also not the reason or benefit to buying a home.

The absolute #1 benefit to ownership is equity. A house is the most valuable asset for the vast majority of people and with rare exceptions, always appreciates. A fixed rate loan (sans taxes and insurance) is essentially pressing pause on housing costs. And as you build equity, you have an emergency off ramp in case things in your life go the wrong direction.

People that are in excellent financial positions and just don't want the hassle and will reasonably never be in a sketchy situation financially certainly can find the benefits of renting long term. But for most people, especially families, buying is one of the most effective long term investments you can make. Plus, if it's really a forever home in an area you love, being able to pass it down to a child is probably the most substantial financial head start you could ever give them. Again, unless you're just rich af.

Prefacing this as someone who 'owns' a home in a high COL living (not a SFH), but while I agree with a lot of what you say, 'equity' is a bit iffy for me, and does need to be measured against things like maintenance costs.

That said agree with the other parts about benefits (especially families, as you note). The psychological stability in not constantly moving and being rooted can far exceed the financial benefits. Also agree on that significant financial head start. Know someone who, while the house wasn't passed down, they still bough it at a significantly discounted rate compared to the area and are pretty solid financially (though they insist they didn't get an advantage). Also to add (perhaps in line with equity) it's a forced savings vehicle for a lot of people who might just blow their money otherwise.

The Trump admin is ending tariffs on beef, coffee, and tropical fruit in an attempt to curb raising food costs.

Wasn't their official position that tariffs don't raise prices?

If true, how would removing them lower prices?

Hassett says these particular goods weren't going up because of tariffs, so that's why they were removed. No evidence was provided as to why they were going up, but he says that now that the tariffs are gone, the US market will be flooded with these products once more.
