If it wasn’t authentic, why was it released as part of the files in the first place?

The letter to Nassar was reported by Rolling Stones Magazine two years ago. That reporting did not contain the contents of the letter. There was absolutely a letter sent to Nassar from Epstein right before he died. It's referenced in other investigative documents. So, if this is a fake one....where's the real one?

some people online are saying if you take redacted parts of the Epstein files and just copy and paste them elsewhere, you can see what they say

the notion being that the DOJ is so incompetent they just basically did the equivalent of a black highlight in Microsoft word and people can just undo the highlight to see it

It's not even that hard. The redactions for most of the files released were done in Acrobat. You can just undo the changes and unredact most of the PDFs.

I've done a lot of redaction as part of my work, and some for the government. I can tell you that with the tools available today, the only way to screw it up is:

1) assigning people who don't know how to do it and improperly training them, or

2) deliberately
