KBG blocking full SNAP benefits was not on my bingo card. Now I really wish they'd issue actually text rulings for emergency cases.

They already spent that 6 billion on something else and don't want to cop to it.

This should be the headline message from every Democrat on every platform, from TV to social media. Trump has the money and resources to cover programs like SNAP during the shutdown, yet he is fighting to keep that support out of people’s hands. Even if it does not cover everything, that needs to be the focus until the government reopens. That and the shutdown continues because they are more interested in protecting predators than helping families.

Well, the left-most justice issued the order, so that def takes the wind out of the sails. My understanding was that it was done knowing the 1st circuit would pick it up quickly and, likely rule against the admin considering the courts composition. Her injunction expires 2 days after that, then SCOTUS would have some cover when they turn down the appeal from of the 1st's decision.

Her order has a 48 hr expiry, forcing the lower court to take up the case immediately, vs the supreme court potentially punting the issue for months/years while the block would stay in place. I take it more she threw herself on a grenade politically to get a quicker resolution.

Yeah, I read the headline initially and then actually looked into what was going on since it sounded like SC was just like "lol no SNAP for you" according to every article headline. Punting it back down for resolving in 48hrs is a good call

I think you read it wrong. The order expires 48 hours after the lower court ruling, not 48 hours from her issuing the stay. It's not forcing the 1st circuit to rule in 2 days.

The 48 hours is to allow the admin time to appeal...again...after the 1st rules against him. She's just make the administration climb the *chain of command" instead of skipping the federal appeals courts by going straight to SCOTUS after a district court loss.

The DHS attempted to set up a purchase deal with Spirit Airlines for 10 Boeing 737s. They were meant for deportation use. Only downside was Spirit doesn't own their 737s and the planes lacked engines.

That still wouldn't stop Spirit from trying to use them in some way or another

Trump admin says that states must stop providing means to receive food benefits if they wish to receive federal SNAP benefits.

According to a late-night memo reviewed by The New York Times, the Agriculture Department instructed states to stop sending full benefit files to Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) processors, the system through which food stamp payments are distributed. The memo specifically noted that any state that had already sent files for full benefits should immediately “undo” these actions.

States such as New York, Oregon, and Pennsylvania had begun issuing full benefits after a federal judge ruled that the government should fully fund SNAP during the shutdown. However, that ruling was temporarily halted by the U.S. Supreme Court, which paused the order while an appeals court reviewed it. This has left SNAP recipients in limbo, with many unsure if they will continue to receive the support they need.

The memo from the Agriculture Department also warned that states could face financial penalties or lose access to federal funding meant to support the program if they failed to comply. Officials in several states have expressed concern about the consequences of this latest directive, particularly given the widespread reliance on food stamps among low-income families.
