nope, anti consumer companies can die
at least we can still buy old shit on a disc until they ruin that too, looking to gamestop and it's grab for ebay for that given how they've managed to assist in fucking collectible markets
It will not be long into the PS6 lifespan before they release a $79.99 "enhanced edition" of one game or another and announce that they'll be deleting all non-enhanced editions.

The amount of denial surrounding this is getting crazy. Tons of people are already defending this and accusing media of spreading misinformation because "this is only for Studio Sony games, other developers are still free to have physical versions". I guess this is when they learn Sony has a monopoly on disc manufacturing for PlayStation lol
I don't see how people aren't connecting the dots that the PS6 won't have a physical disc drive.

Why do people think a ps6 is anywhere in the near future when we're still balls deep in the ram shortage?

The PS5 came out 6 years ago and is already very long in the tooth. Every other generation of PlayStation came out about 6 years after the last one so we are already long overdue.
With the ram shortage I'm betting an announcement in 2028 with the release of that year or next. Time just moves weird cuz you're getting old lol

AI ventures aren't even buying all the ram they promised they would, and the Chinese are nearly there with their own manufactured RAM to saturate the market. I'm cautiously optimistic that there's light at the end of this tunnel by 2028

The PS5 Pro will be my last ever gaming console. I'm going to start buying up discs as cheap as I can find them. Even really old stuff that I think I might want to play. Games that were remastered or re-released on PS4 to give an example. I already am way behind on things I have played. This way I think it will give me enough games to play for years after they stop making discs.
When PS6 comes out I will probably just disconnect the Pro from the internet just in case they decide to push some update that bricks it.
Kojima-san has some thoughts:

The question is, will the leap from PS5 Pro to PS6 will be as dramatic as PS3 to PS4? I'd be positively surprised if it ends up to be 1/2 of it.
Considering how people actually hang onto their PS4 with slow ass HDDs I think Sony would have a real hard time charging a grand to PS5 owners for a PS6 at this stage. With skyrocketing prices on every computer/console related tech, it's the time to hang onto what you already have as long as you can and only upgrade if you have to.
I'm not buying a digital only console. Already have a gaming PC.
With current upscaling technologies being gimped or entirely missing from base ps5, ps6 will be a huge huge upgrade over it. Very noticable in the fps and textures.
Ps5 pro has pssr so that helps, and it works well, but by 2028? You'll have better fidelity for sure, especially at 4k. Whether that's worth $1k is up to you though. I'll be sticking to PC if diskless is the route console makers are taking.

Graphical fidelity is very much at the point of diminishing returns now. Uncharted 4 was 10 years ago and still holds up phenomenally to other AAA games.
Older games still look great
But objectively you can always find better performance if you're willing to pay the premium for it. I don't think most people are willing to pay four figures for the marginal improvement that they would see right now. My FPS are starting to dip below 60 though so I might be tempted to do a four figure upgrade in the next two years (on my PC).

I don’t even own a 4k TV so upgrading does nothing for me lol
Honestly I hate 4k. I think it rocks, looks great, but most media doesn't support true 4k for shit. Streaming isn't doing 4k justice with terrible compression artifacts, most games aren't running in 4k and if they are it's heavily upscaled with some kind of algorithm or machine learning, and if you try to run it straight your game will run like shit below 30fps even.
I love watching a true, non-streaming, 4k video source, but that's few and far in-between for me. I'd rather have high quality 1080p instead of shit quality 4k.
