Not the best of timing for Tomb Raider 1-3, given Aspyr recently fucked the game upside-down with bugs in an update a couple weeks ago trying to add a level select and challenge mode, despite the game having in a good enough state for the past year.

Sucks for the original devs of that portjob to have their work stained in such a manner.

Just in time to go with the ToS update. For those without a Twitter account, all PS4 & PS5 digital purchases (from this past March going forward) have 30-day refreshing licenses where you must log into PSN once a month to continue playing the game. PS4 games show it in the details menu, PS5 games won't show until the license expires.

They well executed the thousand year old strategy. Make it slightly attractive(deals, early or immediate access, controlled scarcity on physical) create dependence and then jack up prices/do wth they want. We all fell for it for the millionth time.

30 day log on requirement, right to strip it off your account, limit your gameplay….wtfever they do we’ll have to accept at this point. And this is an industry-wide movement, don’t ever expect a competitor “siding” with you & your expectations

Probably not. My guess is that it checks your licenses, installed or not, and if you're connected online and logged into PSN, it puts a 30 day tag on it.

For most people, not a problem. Where this going to fuck people up are military, people who live in the boonies, or God help you if you have to internationally travel for work and stay out of the country for a month plus unless you got someone at home who can fire up your PlayStation a couple times a week.

yes. for the majority of people, this doesn't affect them. I think this was a targeted effort against the jailbreaking community that got exposed.

While unlikely to be a tangible issue for most players, there are definitely use-cases that could see a PS4 or PS5 disconnected from the internet for extended periods of time. According to a statement Does it play? gave to Kotaku, the license-checks may have been introduced to combat refund scams, but were designed to convert into unlimited licenses afterward.

That appears to be the case, with an SIE spokesperson telling G___t the following:

"Players can continue to access and play their purchased games as usual. A one-time online check is required to confirm the game's license, after which no further check-ins are required."

Did Sony change their refund policy at some point? Because last I checked, around 4 years ago, their policy was "Did you download it? Can't refund", which led to annoying session with their customer support here, which so happened to be one of the reasons I moved more towards PC gaming w/ Steam & GOG since both are less ass about just revoking your license and giving you your money back.
