On one hand, yes they're babyshit soft. On the other hand, I expect they knew that was going to stay a major, and they were probably equal parts more concerned if Matthews was okay and wanting not to ruin the 5 minute PP because they've lost 8 straight and are just desperate for a win. The guys who were on the ice at the time aren't exactly the fighters and the refs also had Gudas in the box pretty quickly.

They've also had some bite in this third period so I'll just take what I can get.
