If LaMelo can stay healthy and not kill himself/other people driving in Minnesota weather, it could be a fantastic trade.
The upside is obvious. He shoots a huge amount of threes and is league average. With ant he should shoot less and the ones that go away should be the bad/forced/end of shot clock ones so his percentage should go up overall.
I just think between injuries, below average defense (the steals look great but the gambling and off ball inattention is bad) and he basically had his best year ever (which I think is a statistic outlier, not an indication of who he is) he’s going to be a net negative.
I think the wolves went backwards here and we’re gonna bemoan this trade in 2-3 years. I really hope I’m wrong. I like ant a lot and would like him to be on a really good team. Wolves fans could use a championship too, although screw a-rod
say what you want about lamelo, but he took less shots when he actually got some good teammates to pass to. his shots per game went down when he was playing alongside literal rookies last year. and his overall +/- skyrocketed because he got them going. the hornets offense won't be the same without him
conversely, you guys go from having one of the worst ball stoppers in randle to having one of the best distributors in lamelo. inserting a real offensive engine next to ant also frees him up to hurt teams offball as a cutter/finisher and gives him more access to open looks behind the arc. lamelo also unlocks a solid 2 man game with gobert as well
forcing ant to play the 1 wasn't the play, either. the wolves needed a real PG and there is no way lamelo is worse than conley on defense. there is nothing but upside for the wolves, all you need to do is see past his dumb tattoos and goofy demeanor. he might be a better #2 for ant than kat was and thats saying something
seriously tho, that boy can hoop. if he can stay healthy and lock in its a massive w for the wolves
LaMelo is a tremendous offensive engine ya, it's the court vision and passing and pace as much as the shooting gravity, but his on/off numbers and the advanced offensive trackers absolutely loved him last year. like best offense in the league with him on the court vs being mid af with him off it.
he and Haliburton actually have similar games / impacts despite radically different demeanors and neither have been valued as highly as they should've been. he does suck defensively but fuck it the Wolves have + defenders everywhere else. frontcourt depth is the team's biggest issue rn with Gobert turning 34 and slim pickins behind him.
edit: checked the stats and he had the 3rd highest on/off offensive rating in the NBA behind Jokic and Murray. if he can stay healthy the Wolves are about to zoom.
I heard the Lakers picked up Robbie Avila. Congratulations on the upcoming championship Lakers
Isaiah Joe traded to the Pistons for 2 second rounders.
Alvarado resigned with Knicks for 3 year/14 mil. Feels like a substantial hometown discount but I'm sure he's racking up endorsements.
well I like that trade a lot for the Pistons.
So what’s charlotte doing exactly?
Hornets clearly know something the rest of the world doesn't about the 2033 draft. Seriously though I'm thinking this some culture reset kind of thing
My bigger question is what is Phoenix doing.
I would not want Miles Bridges anywhere near my team.
Draymond Greene is a free agent
He opted out of his player option but it's assumed he'll re-sign. He's opening up cap space (according to the talking heads) for the Warriors to sign LeBron and trade for AD
new(?) point shaving arrest just dropped
damn, ja to portland
what about scoot?
edit: what about lillard? LOL
Dame Ja Jrue scoot is crazy
Pretty sure the grizzlies have a similar glut at PF now too

the best remedy to imposter syndrome is witnessing what NBA GMs do on a regular basis what is that lineup
I'd assume the blazers have other moves in the works, unless they're just going for the oops all guards lineup
Absolutely insane how much Ja's value tanked. At least the Griz didn't have to give up a pick, just gotta eat Grant's contract
that's what 26 games played a year for 3 straight years while being a lawyer's nightmare gets ya
