Disclosure Day (2026, Spielberg)

One of my favorite pieces of local lore is generally seen as the preeminent alien encounter story. Multiple eye witnesses. Took place in the small town of Hopkinsville Kentucky in the 1950's. Each year, they celebrate the encounter with "Disclosure Day". It's been rumored for a few years that Spielberg wanted a major motion picture based on this story...

About a year ago, I researched the original story for one purpose. Get wasted and do the best Drunk History episode ever. So I had the kids in the living room, got wine drunk, and retold the whole thing.

It also looks like Spielberg has been wanting to do this since the 70s. It never got made, but it did have material used in Poltergeist, E.T. & Gremlins.

The latest trailer reminds me a lot of the 1980 film "The Return" (starring Jan-Michael Vincent & Cybill Shepherd). The premise of The Return is about a young boy and girl who have an encounter with aliens and 25 years later, they come back to collect on their investment.
