So it was some kind of procedural violation? But haven't heard any details.

Yeah, they rushed to get it onto the ballot and missed a step.
The Virginia Supreme Court ruled that lawmakers did not properly follow the constitutional process required to place the amendment on the ballot. Under Virginia law, constitutional amendments must pass through two successive legislatures with a valid general election in between. Republicans argued that Democrats violated that rule because early voting had already begun before the first legislative approval was finalized. The court agreed, declaring the referendum and resulting congressional maps invalid.
Happened in Ohio and Florida and both of those states just used their new maps anyway and ignored the court.
I guarantee you VA won't do that though, so moot point
Ignore the court like Ohio did
It is very on brand for democrats to want to do things the right way (actually letting people vote on it) and then fuck it up via incompetence.
Do those other states even have the same provision as VA? For that matter I didn't think there was even a public vote elsewhere just a commission.

Don't be mad about it. Don't even waste your energy on it. More shit you can't do a damn thing about.
Add it to the pile.

I posted an example of red states not following their own provisions in order to push through red maps. It very much is a case that Republicans are cutting corners while Democrats are at least trying to be democratic with their gerrymandering

State Department to revoke passports of parents who owe $2500~ in child support. The previous threshold was $100k.
Well the article says they are starting with 100k and will expand it to 2.5k later
So if you need a passport to vote, that means they're taking away the right to vote for citizens because of debts?

Putting politics aside you have to be one hell of a deadbeat to owe $100,000 dollars in child support.
pretty much. don't fall into the "this is awful so I should be enraged" trap. don't get exhausted. do pay attention, but don't let it drain you. we're in this for the long haul and being able to recognize the fucked-up shit that's going on while not allowing it to take over your emotional life is going to be essential. Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.
