I'm sure come would call me unpatriotic despite my !A right to say so, but we don't have a country worth celebrating and it hasn't been so for a long while.

Basically, this idea of celebration is like Facebook sending me a remember post of the day my dog died over a decade ago. Like, yeah, it happened, but fuck that, man.

It's just kind of sad to me. The country should be worth celebrating. But it isn't, and if you are, I'm only wondering what you thought was worth a celebration, and furthermore concerned that you're probably one of the reasons that things are as they seem.

I could dig into history and find good. I could look really deep for something unrelated that's happened in the country as there are good things somewhere in most things. But a celebration of this as a whole feels ignorant to partake in and that feels pretty bad.

It's also a reminder that in my lifespan I'm only going to have so many of these sorts of milestones, and this one was completely wasted. A shame.

This isn't to say there isn't good happening around us, but the collective decline is real and is affecting us even if the isolated/lucky don't see it. Take your pick of it really accelerating with Reagan, late-stage capitalism with it's rush to offshore jobs, reply with AI that isn't ready for actual use, and not pay people living wages without safety nets absent/in shambles, rejection of science and factual information accompanied by the gutting of educational systems and being afraid to hold back children that don't learn, the push of religion, in particular christianity, the erosion of the legal system and lack of accountability for law enforcement, gross over-funding of the military over social programs, basically being ruled by a pedo-ring, the lack of regulation of social media and with it the rise of disinformation, individuals' information being sold as a commodity with consent/compensation, and frankly more I'm forgetting off the top of my head. Run-on sentence from hell, I know, but I blame America.

It's very difficult to celebrate America's Birthday when the federal government murdered two US citizens on video without much consequence. Last year there was no point to celebrate America's Birthday with all the ICE raids rolling out around June 2025.
