Democrats will have another record turnout. The landscape for voter engagement now is so much more ripe this time around versus 2018.

Candidate quality isn't going to mean shit since the bar for the presidency is set so much lower than that. This isn't a 'vote for Democrats' election. It's a hate vote election. Embrace it, Republicans have been fucking over Dems for decades through hate votes, as the last page has liked to point out their effective way to coalesce.

I don't know why people say "you're not voting for her because you like her, your voting against him because you hate him" and use that as some sort of negative, as if an entire party wasn't elected on that platform.
And my usual rebuttal is that just because it may boil down to a hate vote, it doesn't mean the DNC should just put forward the most blandest milquetoast motherfucker in existence as yet another lesser evil dance hoping that's enough. They can learn from the Mamdani campaign or just keep hoping boomer methodology will somehow work better this time and blame the left when it doesn't. Stack the deck. Don't just let it be a hate vote because "thank god he's gone" means little when it turns out Mr. Whitebread is Republican-lite and does fuck all for 4 years thinking the US nazi party should be worked with and not modern day Nuremberg'd. Because that's how we ping pong back to the GOP when they can argue lives haven't improved and strawman the reasons like immigrants or trans folk instead of late-stage capitalism and an unchecked war machine.

A milquetoast establishment Democrat doing literally nothing for 4 years would be a dramatic improvement over the current admin.

The candidate needs to be picked entirely on the basis of making sure the fewest Dem voters will abstain. A true progressive firebrand will keep some establishment centrist Dems home and a Newsom type will keep some progressives home. Who will keep fewer people home? Choose that person.

I couldn't care less about their optics vs. the right. Like I posted last night, every one of those people is still gonna vote GOP so nothing they say or do matters. Impossible to reach them so need to just ignore them and focus on everyone else.

I would go as far as to say I think the Dem candidate should just refuse to debate the GOP or meaningfully interact with them at all. Just tell them to fuck off and campaign entirely to the public.

None of it matters, it's Newsom. It's a done deal. It doesn't matter who you want it's who they want.

I'd love to be wrong. I won't be, but I'd love to be.

I know it's something of a sport to dump on you and I'll be honest, you say some pretty tiring stuff.

But you do not seem ok, and I really hope that you're finding something to balance out the constant doomposting, or have at least one thing or friend in your life that isn't absolutely awful.

Pritzker or Beshear are just as likely. In 2008 it was definitely Hillary until it wasn't. In 2016 Jeb Bush was the anointed candidate until he wasn't. It's more than 2 years out before the Democratic primaries end. Saying "it's Newsom" now is like saying you can't fathom the idea of how quickly politics move, or that recent history has all leaned towards it being a bad idea to try and get into a race early.

Cool, so we just bandage the gaping wounds until we let the GOP come back and rip them off and stick their fingers in to wiggle. I'm tired of this being the US' politics. Do good things to the point it's undeniable that picking a GOP candidate and their regressive policies would be socially accepted as retarded. All of their arguments against such are null and void as proven through Trumpism and the rampant hypocrisy. Or we can keep spiraling down this course of no one being able to afford anything, not being able to find jobs, not being able to get educated, not having children, no longer owning anything, and basically becoming slaves in all but name. If anything, this is the absolute best time for the firebrand unless we want to demonstrate that "vote blue no matter who" is a crock of shit if not the establishment anointed one.

And kill all the pedos. Or is that too controversial, too?

Mamdanis fight was always the primary. That's where Democrats will hash out the argument you're making. Sure, the DNC can and will pump money into preferred candidates, but the environment is still such that establishment Dems will be playing from their heels. And good candidates will get pushed forward regardless (see Platner, certainly not the establishment darling that Mills is).

I feel you guys are complaining about presidential election year politics despite it being a midterm. I don't think it's the same game plan.

This will never happen. Once again, 99.99999999999999999% of GOP voters will vote GOP until they die no matter who it is and no matter how successful the hypothetical Dem government is.

Virtually everyone outside of these people already feel that way. Not sure what you're soap boxing about.

I just read that Cory Booker is not ruling out a Presidential run.

History has shown us people are much more willing to vote for a black man than a woman of any race so, hey, not a bad start

I'm more than aware it's a mix of lacking education and ultimately an indoctrination problem, but I don't want to believe everyone on that side is a lost cause. For some, something has to unfortunately be experienced to be understood and yes we're getting some of that leopard face eating as Trumpers find they're getting screwed by him, but the other side of that coin is that none of us here in our lifetimes have had that Democrat leader and subsequent backing that went the extra mile. I don't believe you can tell me with a straight face that if we handle the brunt of the current common man's financial issues, that all of them would go, "Eww, democrats! Gross!" No, you'd have to talk to the people who could suddenly get some medical care, weren't having to work two jobs anymore, weren't being shackled by decades of debt, who suddenly had the money to do fun things regularly, wouldn't have to be stealing baby formula from Wal-Mart, and so on that isn't living paycheck-to-paycheck. I know the GOP would tooth, claw, gnash, and wail at anything remotely resembling high wealth taxes and common sense regulation, including getting the minimum wage back to its original intent, but the trickle down ain't been a-tricklin'. We have to do something differently and it's not 4 years of stalling just for people to get disenfranchised again. I don't care if it's mid-terms or a presidential year. We have to start aiming in that direction all around.

I think a huge percentage would still say that, probably 80%+, but I will for sure agree with you at least on the point that it would solve the problem indirectly because hugely successful policies that make tons of peoples lives better would galvanize enough sane people into voting, and voting enthusiastically, that they'd never have a chance to win an election again.

To be clear, I am saying that I genuinely believe that all of those people would happily reap the benefits of Dem policies (as they do now and have for decades) and, fully aware that the people they vote for are not the authors of said policies, vote for the GOP anyway. I've seen too much. They ain't flipping.

Thankfully they don't need to, they can take that stubbornness to the grave if they keep losing.

The ACA and Medicaid saved my niece's (my step brother's daughter) life at least 3 times from cancer and associated complications. He owes his entire family situation and his lack of financial ruination (not to mention his daughter's life...) on those policies.

Didn't stop him from going to J6 and getting disowned by my family tho. He's at CPAC right now. Enthusiastically supports the repeal of Medicaid.

If I knew his address you could mail him a letter. That’d be about it. He cut all tech and made his family go full nativist. I think they might have a landline but idk the number.

edit: Apparently don’t know what the word nativist meant but you get the idea

Just to push back on this a bit my brother in laws brother is full Maga and naturally didn't vax anyone in his family. He caught COVID, was on a ventilator for two weeks and almost died and tried to get his family vaccinated. His wife refused and divorced him.
