Federal authorities arrested and charged a U.S. special forces soldier who is accused of using classified information about the raid that removed Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro from office to make prediction market bets.

The soldier was identified as Gannon Ken Van Dyke in a news release announcing the indictment.

Van Dyke “bet a total of approximately $33,034” on the Maduro operation on the prediction market platform Polymarket, federal authorities said. He ultimately made more than $409,000 as a result of the bets placed on the U.S. operation, an unsealed indictment alleges.

Authorities said he “participated in the planning and execution of the U.S. military operation to capture Nicolás Maduro.”

Firing squads and banned lethal injections are back on the table for federal executions.

The Justice Department is also reauthorizing the use of single-drug lethal injections with pentobarbital that were used to carry out 13 executions during the first Trump administration — more than under any president in modern history. The Biden administration had removed pentobarbital from the federal protocol over concerns about the potential for unnecessary pain and suffering.

The federal government has not previously included firing squad as a method of execution in its protocols, according to the Death Penalty Information Center. Five states currently allow executions by firing squad: Idaho, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Utah.

The pentobarbital protocol was adopted by Bill Barr, attorney general during Trump's first term, to replace a three-drug mix used in the 2000s, the last time federal executions were carried out before Trump's first term in office.

The move is in response to the Biden Admin banning the lethal injections and converting the sentences of 37 individuals, who would have been executed by injection, to life sentences. The Trump Admin is seeking the death penalty against 44 individuals.

Another article of a Trump-voting farmer (and one non-Trumper) complaining about Trump policies ruining his livelihood. What caught my eye was that the Farmer Welfare program that was meant to offset tariffs, is only covering roughly 20% of total losses, as of March. It was a one-time payout. The USDA has refused to comment if any more relief is planned.
