When my rental house burned down in CA a couple years ago it was fucking wild trying to find anywhere that was affordable to short term it up while trying to find another place to rent. This was San Diego so obviously that in itself is an issue, but thankfully I also had a good amount of savings to be able to fund myself and my roommates transition because otherwise they'd have wound up on the streets or having to move to a diff state and I would have just moved back to Maryland/NY areas. The only help we were given was a $100 gift card for me...and they got $50 each because as a couple they had to split the $100 allowance.

Then fast forward half a year and we got sued for being "at fault" for the fire for 800k by USAA even though there was no evidence beyond Brazilian roommate not understanding what the cops were asking him, after they had PULLED HIM FROM THE FIRE and they wrote down he admitted to start the whole thing with a cigarette.

Fuck this country and it's housing.
