What's funny (sad?) is in his mind he's being 100% honest about that first part. The rich get richer when oil prices go up, which are the only people he cares about.

The problem is that the statement is not true. Any revenue increases for oil companies charging more are going to be partially offset by higher costs to pretty much anything that they themselves use to process and transport their product; which all has a cascading effect through every industry relying on their product (i.e, everything) up to and including the consumer who will buy less, travel less, and have less money to meet their household obligations.

High oil prices are bad for everyone, including the rich; there’s a reason that the market is going down as prices go up, pretty much all companies’ forward looking revenues will be affected negatively by this.

Anyone listening to President Donald Trump’s speeches has heard him say it and say it again: Gas prices are dropping on his watch, making life more affordable.

The day before he launched the war against Iran, he appeared in Corpus Christi, Texas, and said that "right here," gas prices had fallen below $2.30 a gallon.

"I just left Iowa two weeks ago: $1.99. And then I passed another one: $1.85. It’s happening. It’s happening," he added.

On Thursday, Trump’s message shifted.

He posted on social media that when oil prices rise, as they are now, “we make a lot of money” because of America’s energy dominance.

"The United States is the largest Oil Producer in the World, by far, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money," he wrote.
