New TV suggestions

Hey friends.

I've been mulling over whether I want to update my TV.

For reference, I'm currently using a Samsung Q70R QLED TV from back in..2018 or 2019?

Current specs for reference:

I'm happy with it, but it does lack HDMI ports.

I know we have some new TVs on the horizon, but right now I'm looking at the following:

LG C5 OLED (65 Inch)

It looks like the C5 might edge it out?

Also I'm perfectly happy with my QLED, though HDMI 2.1 might be cool (especially since I'm considering a PS5 pro) and my understanding is that the Burn In issues with OLEDs aren't really a huge issue these days. Heck, even if they were, 5 year warranty if I get it through Costco bundled in, so not a huge deal.

Any thoughts? Experiences with these?

Last TV i bought was an LG and I regret it. Horrible UI powered by an AI and the remote can trigger a pointer that while it can be dismissed, there is no option to disable. Also, to watch live TV, you have to go into a separate set of options as there isn't an option from the opening screen. And an aside, idk if this is a PS5 thing, but powering that on overrides an other app on the TV which can also break an app creating a new host of fun

I know LG gets a lot of praise, but I've actually been pretty happy with the Samsung TVs I have. I've either owned Samsung or Sony TVs.

Pretty accustomed to the app interfaces on both.

The UI on an LG from a year ago. Normally the bottom row of the first image would be a series of ads, but there is a way deep in the menus to opt out of them tracking your viewing habits which affected the ad space.

Something I had forgotten to mention before is the LG TVs don't have an option to reset the TV. Certain apps and system features (apps in app store disappear when deleting them off your home screen) can break where normally a reset will fix it. The only way to do a reset is to go into system information and opt out of their terms of service. If you're curious, opting out disables access to apps and using the TV for anything other than a monitor.

I'm pretty used to my Samsung's, and the older Bravia in the other room is something I like.

I know it's a very minor thing, but Samsung TV+ for the random background anime or other shows is kinda nice when I'm feeling braindead and want something idle.

It's not the best measure but I'll probably drop by a Costco and see them in person. At the very least, see what aesthetically it looks like. I know in store isn't exactly best calibrated.

If I'm lucky they'll pick up the old one too since it's not like I'll get a ton for it on FB marketplace at this point.

I put a google TV stick on my LG and mapped its remote to the major functions, then changed the webOS settings to boot directly to the stick and bypass the main OS. That more or less eliminated 95% of headaches with it. Only ever see the main OS if I have to switch inputs manually.

I didn't know about this, and after Googling it, I didn't know there were dozens of guides to "de-LG" your TV. I'll have to try these out, but these seem to be the best QoL upgrades to an LG TV.

Never put a TV on the internet, and if you did (to update it or whatever) factory reset it after.

That must be new as I have had to factory reset my LG CX55 once while troubleshooting a sound bar issue that inevitably wound up being caused by the Samsung sound bar lol

Ended up going with the Samsung. Gets here Monday. Gonna give the old one to a family member.

Samsung was my previous 4k. Liked the UI and was a solid TV for it's first few years. The TV antenna was the first to burn out, the second was the wifi. Still works as a monitor for my old consoles.

LG TV's record your voice and store it, even if you are not connected to the internet.
