1 year $12M
Or, as per the new form of measurement. 1 year 2/3 Carlsson
I don't know why he would drag this out all the way to now, just to sign a one year deal when his arbitration date was this weekend and he was likely to get more than this lol.
After turning down $15Mx8 it's pretty evident that the goal was not purely maximizing dollars. He wants to win. Dallas is a great spot to try do that. They'll work something out.
To be fair, he turned down 8x 15 from Seattle in a sign and trade.
Seattle's best players are like 1 tier up from the hackey thread posters here.
Right, but if it wasn't about the money how did they even get to this point in the first place. This deal sucks for both parties lol. It inches him closer to UFA so it sucks for Dallas, and it was less money than he would have gotten in arbitration for the same term, which is stupid for him.
If this is what he was going to settle for I just don't understand how we got here in the first place.
Redditors are saying Stars are waiting for Seguin's cap hit ($9.85M) to get off the books next year before a long term deal. When the 1-year contract gets inked, Stars will be ~$2.2M over the cap. I don't know their LTIR situation. Expect further moves to fit Robo under the cap.
Also allows Robo to get traded instead of locked in Dallas for 2026-27 if an extension can't be worked out. Could easily be $15-18m 7 year extension. Trading him would be absolutely stupid and everyone knows that.
The 1-year contract will lead him into being a UFA so it gives him full control of his future. And taking a more team friendly $12mil for this year at least leaves the door open to extending in Dallas and not burning that bridge by completely kneecapping them by getting a higher arbitration result.
Plus $12mil is still pretty fantastic by NHL standards, there are only like 9 players making more than him.
12mil is cheap on the cap so his team can use the savings to fill in the depth. Y'all keep sleeping on this, money isn't everything when you're sincere about chasing a ring. It's obvious what he's doing, and if Dallas sucks come next deadline, the contract is perfect for a trade before becoming a ufa again. I doubt they suck enough to let that happen, but the option is there.
You need to build a team and a culture, and that starts with being realistic about what you can accomplish with overpaid players in a salary capped sport.

I'm not sleeping on anything, you're missing the point. This contract was surely available months ago before the entire trade request fiasco. The point is I don't know why he and the Stars had to go through multiple failed sign-and-trades and multiple failed extension attempts if this is what he was going to wind up accepting 5 days before his arbitration hearing.
Mike Babcock drama going on these past few weeks.
Started a few weeks ago when Mike Commodore (one of the more vocal haters of Mike Babcock) accused Babcock as a predator on social media.
Over the past few weeks Commodore has been talking about the goings on behind the scene with Babcock, and now the Oilers have filed a Cease and desist against Commodore.

There are two psychopaths involved in this gongshow. One of them better be careful about insinuating pedophilia.
