Dreger and others are reporting that Hellebuyck will not be showing up to Jets camp, and will sit out until there is a trade.
They could get a kings ransom for the dude, why are they being so stubborn. He doesn't want to be with you, get the hint. They waited too long and now the teams that really want him have moved on and used their capital elsewhere. Real dumb management they got there

Its called stop being a bitch and honour your contract you signed.
He had ample time a few years ago to be like "Nah, I'mma head out." but signed for 7 more years. Accept the fact that you chased the bag rather than what you wanted by chasing a Cup (which btw come playoff time he was the biggest detriment to that cause, I'm pretty sure david fucking Ayres would've been a better option)
Gonna be insane in 2031 when Macklin signs a 7 year extension for over $200M lol

They're not trading him cause the offers they've been getting are shit. He has a NMC on his 7-year deal (of which, he's only just going to be entering the 3rd year of this season), so it's absolutely guaranteed that he gave an abysmal list of teams he'd actually go to, and none of those teams a)need him, or b)are willing to give up anything worthwhile for him.
You gotta take a second to think about things instead of just immediately posting shit out of your ass. You can easily find his contract info online, not to mention it was literally reported a day ago that the offers were shit and the destinations he wants to go to don't actually need him https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comm..._trade_offers/
I don't remember which TV sports personality said it, but the idea that 'if a player has a NMC or NTC in their contract but asks to be traded away, that NMC/NTC should become null and void' is sounding more and more like a great idea. Add that and salary cap hits reflecting what a player's salary is after they're taxed in whatever province/state they're playing in into the next CBA and I'll be a much happier hockey fan.
I'd rather more teams just take the Yzerman approach and tell the player to pound sand. If you want to get traded tell the team privately and play like you're worth trading for instead of throwing a public pity party for yourself and threatening to sit out when you aren't getting your way.
Players have bargained for all these contract rights and they're entitled to them. What they aren't entitled to is the team fucking itself with a fire poker to hand deliver you to a destination of your choosing. Especially not when most of the guys recently involved in this bullshit have been big parts of why their teams have accomplished nothing.
That's why I think NMC/NTC should become void after a trade request. Those clauses were granted to give players security so they could settle down and raise young families and etc without fear of getting tossed across the country without warning, so of course they're well deserved. But if they're exploited to force a team to trade a player to a specific location after that player signs a big contract with a team, then fuck em'. Of course, there are examples of players and teams making a trade happen out of good faith, and that's all well and good too
But I agree with you. As it stands right now, Winnipeg should just let Hellebuyck sit until they get a trade offer that makes sense. And if Hellebuyck chooses to sit out like he apparently has, then let him lose his salary and face fines for not showing up and etc, etc. Skipping out on preseason will cost him like $400k already apparently
Domi failed his physical and will be out indefinitely. Brutal for him.
All I see are a bunch of Canadian fans upset that their teams are shit, build for shit, with shit cultures that STRUGGLE to maintain top talent year after year.
No, he doesn't have to suck it up. Yes, he has a strong NMC that makes it difficult to move him, but its even more relevant that they dragged their feet moving him back before this was all public when the teams he'd want to join, like Florida or Vegas or you know...one of the successful teams, had the capital to offer for him. Those teams made their moves for the year and can't afford him, and you know full well they wish they could.
Y'all should stop making excuses for shitty Canadian management. Year after year it's crybaby nonsense about the original teams, Canada is hockeys home, blah blah blah. Times have changed, players have WAY more power than other athletes do compared to other sports, and it's in their best interest to wield it.
Some of y'all even champion and support players getting their bag knowing full well that bag just handicapped the team in depth. This is no different. Let him warm the bench if he won't play for you, it's your dead cap space you enabled by not honoring his wishes. If you had a better culture and management team this wouldn't be an issue, but it is, so stop blaming the gold medalist and do some management. Good luck forcing him to play if he genuinely doesn't want to; he gave you a chance to make profit off his value and you squandered it.*
