The USS Benfold, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, had a "engineering casualty involving its generators” on July 24th. Besides losing the ability to maneuver on its own, the almost 10,000-ton warship saw its galley services, toilets, air conditioning and potable water stop working. It was dead in the water with no power for 4 days untill the guided-missile cruiser USS Robert Smalls came and helpeld with food and water.

The warship had to be towed to Subic Bay in the Philippines for repairs.

You know what's interesting? If you trace all of Trump's problem back to narcissistic denial (NO THIS IS REALLY THE BEST THINGS EVER FAKE NEWS IT'S ALL GREAT) you can literally connect the dots on why all of his business ventures failed.

Not giving him sympathy points by any means, but holy shit what a case study in how psychopathology can build up from something as small as failed business, to trafficking, to murder, to running a country, in such a spectacular failing fashion, and the dissonance required for people to go along with it for fear of being wrong.

I feel like there needs to be a modern miniseries adaptation of The Jungle, it needs to run for a week on every station/platform, and everybody needs to be forced to fucking watch it.

VANDENBERG SPACE FORCE BASE, Calif. (AP) — Five news reporters and two members of the military who were invited to an event at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California were briefly detained at gunpoint by security officers who thought they were gate crashers, according to local news reports.

The reporters and military members were part of a convoy being escorted onto the base by uniformed public affairs staff in a government minivan when they were suddenly ordered out of their vehicles with their hands up, according to news reports.

Officers pointed guns, sirens were sounded, and barricades went up at the gate entrance, KEYT reported.

The two military members assigned to the base — one enlisted and one a junior officer — were handcuffed and placed in base vehicles, while the civilians were ordered to sit on a curb, Noozhawk reported.

The reporters for outlets also including KSBY-TV and the Santa Maria Times/Lompoc Record were held for more than 30 minutes, causing them to miss the event. All were let go without further incident.

The Army is phasing out it's Drone Unit after the Acting Army Chief of Staff Gen. Christopher LaNeve decided it time to get back to basics.

The battalion, established in January with about 600 soldiers from the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Europe, was designed to study lessons from Russia’s war in Ukraine and develop new concepts for integrating drones and ground robots into combat operations.

The unit will take part in the Saber Junction exercise in Germany in August and September before presenting its findings to the Army. It will then abandon its drone assault role and return to its primary mission as an airborne infantry battalion, an Army official said.

The move is part of a broader “back-to-basics” approach under LaNeve, who has been closely backed by Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth. LaNeve took over as acting Army chief after Gen. Randy George was removed in April.
