lol....
Dragoons were good until square decided to nurf TP. I think the correct name for DRG's and SAM's was Penta-Blitz.
Square made the job shitty, not the players.
Stop whining and lvl a job that actually gets some credit.

Oh I hope so much that the Relic Spear level 5 (Gungnir?) is the best weapon in the game and that it's weaponskill has the same modifiers as Sidewinder and returns 50 tp when used, and doesn't have accuracy issues.
Because Relic 5 the only undiscovered thing going for DRGs which could make them much better.
Remember when your mother told you that you could be anything you wanted to be? She was right. What she didn't tell you though, is that based on what you choose, there are certain things you will not be able to do, and cannot be expected to handle/contribute to as much as others. You would never see a cop get sent out to do a Marine's job out in the field of combat. They could, don't get me wrong. Human potential is limitless. But the Marine is better equipped for this job. The cop may only have what tools he has to do his particular job.
Same scenario, different jobs, only we're moving to FFXI world. You would not send a DRG in to do a RNG's job. No way in hell.
Honestly... DRG are great in exp parties. They can do great damage against mobs that are leveled off of. If they do gain hate, yes, they can Super Jump. Their sub also adds a varity of tricks from the bag as well. But with the way SE has DRG set up, that is their limit. Trying to say otherwise is like hacking your leg off, and can walk just like everyone else.
Some common arguements about DRG being useful in endgame:
"Super Jump, to take hate off after WS" True. You could do that. But... Wheeling Thrust's modifier is so low that any hate generated by it would be minimal. Thus, it's not really useful. All the DRG does is gives the mob a little extra TP. No thanks!
"Once our wyvern engages, it's like having a 19th member of the alliance" No it's not. The combo of the DRG and his/her Wyvern is capable of doing damage, yes. But on endgame mobs, you can't count on the DRG or Wyvern to hit every time. I'm a 75 PLD, Capped Sword skill (no merits so 275), and when I am actually doing damage I wear equipment that gives me Accuracy+21. I still miss with my sword. To a mob that cons Impossible, but is really easy to kill (Guardian Crawler for those of you interested)! Sure DRG get accuracy bonuses, as well as the wyvern... but the endgame mobs have evasion to compensate for that. Add up the average RNG's Ranged accuracy, and a DRG's accuracy bonuses even after giving the DRG great equipment. The ranger owns the dragoon, R. Acc compared to Acc. You're not gonna hit as often as you think.
"I can sub whm and cure a tank for 200ish HP for only 7 MP" This requires you to be in the tank party. A party that is dedicated to Paladins/Ninjasm healers, refreshers, and AA casters. Swapping one of those out so you can pop Dia, and cure the tank for 200 HP is really stupid. It compramises the safety of the party, especially on mobs that hit really fast, such as Byakko.
"I can have my Wyvern engage a kited mob" Again, true. But... (there's that word again) That requires you to be in the alliance. A Rng wil always outdamage a Wyvern, if they have equipment up to par.
The class of Dragoon really has only 3 things they can effectivly do in the endgame scene. Outside heal using whm sub, Ancient Circle for Wyrm/Dragon fights, and Opo-Opo Necklace> Sleep Potions to 300% TP and Spirits Within, assuming your sword is high enough. Wheeling Thrust just won't cut it compared to Sidewinder, Spirits Within, etc.
It really does suck that SE hasn't given DRG anything useful toward the endgame contribution. I would like everyone to have fun at their chosen job. But it just isn't gonna happen until SE restructures DRG. Through tried and true methods, DRG has found no real useful home in endgame. It's not that hard to see.
Ok Ok! HERE IT GOES!
Square-Enix gave Dragoons a sword skill for a reason. Can anyone guess it?
*jumps up and down with hand raised shouting "oh oh oh oh oh"*
Who said anything about using wheeling trust?
K, wheeling trust is weak. But njot every dragoon WS is weak (right? I mean, I don't think wheeling trust has the best modifiers of all DRG WS's. Please correct me if I'm wrong)
and honestly, it's people like you guys, that got me to quit drg. because no matter how good i see the job as, there's atleast 200 assholes to shoot down every aspiring newb who thinks the job is fun. i've been in exp pts lvling other jobs, and seen(at lvl 20) "you shouldn't be drg cause i heard they suck". now at lvl 20, drg is the best non-magic DD, yes better then rng. the only time rng becomes more powerfull then drg is when they get sidewinder/slugshot. but noone cares because, they heard drg sucks.
too bad i can't go back in time and start rumors about rng sucking. then seeing how the job fares today.
i'm sorry but rng owns drg at all levels its not even close... its not like people are conspiring against drg for no real reason. if you want to get to the endgame and be the least useful class then go for it, some people like the job enough.
being good at Lv 20 or even Lv 60 doesn't matter. if what you care about is being good in XP PTs to 60, you probably shouldn't be on this website.Originally Posted by Saashaa
DRG is a worthless sub too so quitting early is a good thing, the more time you spend in it the more time you waste. not that it's necessarily a bad thing when you're having fun, but denying it and saying it's useful and than actually getting to 75 and you start having doors slammed in your face, that's a bad thing.
leveling = going to school
Lv 75 = graduation
job = major
HNMs = career
just because you had fun going to gym class doesn't mean you're going to graduate and make a career out of playing sports.
if advising people against it makes them an asshole, i'd rather be an asshole than a fool.
you can try, and than when someone who ignores your rumors takes RNG up to 55 and does Sidewinder for 1000+ damage. whoever you told the rumor to will forever remember you as the idiot who said RNG sucks.Originally Posted by Saashaa
8 or 9 months ago i was leveling my WHM and i got into this PT with 2 people who were friends in RL. they went on and on in /p about how BRDs suck, how they never miss without a BRD and how BRDs don't do any damage and how they would never invite one to a PT.
i think that rumor worked out really well, don't you?
You do on my server. -_-aOriginally Posted by rooster
Oh, on-topic: DRG can Super Jump after a SAM, WAR, or DRK does an SATA+WS onto them behind a Wyrm HNM, saving the SAM, WAR, or DRK the hassle of logging off to reset hate! o_o-b
I love Dragoon as a job class, but Square-Enix really did screw them over on HNMs. /comfort Dragoons. ; ;
Isn't that kinda risky...?Originally Posted by Kayoto

the point isn't about actually being good at and given lvl. it's about hearing someone say something, then it cascading down, and getting twisted to mean something else. true, drg arn't the best job for HNM, but a newb hearing that(given chance for 'other word arrangments') will think that drg sucks at all lvls. and if people stop playing a fun job because they heard it sucks, or because they don't get invites because other people heard it sucks, is depriving that person and anyone else from having fun. which is the point of a game.being good at Lv 20 or even Lv 60 doesn't matter. if what you care about is being good in XP PTs to 60, you probably shouldn't be on this website.
if it bothers you so much, go around telling every one its great,and counter the negative rumor vibe! just lvl another job and stop crying;;. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I am lvling sam just for kirin and wyrms,so i think you can do it to;;
Again, it requires the DRG to be in the main alliance... A spot reserved for blm, rng, tanks, healers and refreshers, as well as a few spots for those that are ready with spirits within, or a weapon skill that will cause enough damage, as well as Chi Blasting monks.Originally Posted by Saashaa
There's another point!!! MNK only Chi Blast durring fights... But it's useful! Just goes to show that even the jobs that can only do one thing are deemed useful. DRG really don't do much for an HNM fight. Deal with it! You chose the job, it's your own fault if you get upset due to your classes' limitations.
only need to invite them when they use super jump/high jump. SATA works w/o being pted at all.Originally Posted by Crovus
drg sucks get over it
you may not miss, but you hit for practically nothing.
drg is not balanced, its weak. all drg ws are weak, all drg job abilities are weak
DRG has to be in alliance to get SATA to work on them
that is very trueOriginally Posted by Litoriceboi
