Tool, Deftones, Reverend Horton Heat (rock-a-billy :D ), good times for a freshman in high school to waiste a full day on the hill side.

On a side note... some music can fall into the same genre but sound completely different, there is nothing quite like Tool, there is nothing quite like Pink Floyd, there is nothing quite like Dave Matthews Band, but they don't have a seperate genre for them, they are the pioneers, stop wasting your time about classifications and listen to what you like. I think it's safe to say that no one here likes every band in any one single genre.

I think a reference to specific bands rather then a mythological genre is much more useful.

Try to compare a band to Agalloch. You can't. You can, however, say they are Progessive Doom Metal with Black Metal influences. Meaning, They are Doom Metal with progressive song structures and they often use the black metal style of vocals. It's not that difficult.

Your attempt to make yourself seem somehow above me in terms of musical knowledge by using unknown "metal" OMG GENRE bands from probably some random European country combined with shallow descriptions of structure and vocals fails. Do I give a shit that Agalloch is doom metal with whateverthefuck song structures? No. Give me the fucking CD, let me decide if its worthy to my ears. Not to mention, who's really gonna know what they hell you're talking about when you make that kind of description? You're talking in a very limited diction. Why reference a genre when you can reference the bands that make up that genre? And if you say you can't reference one band to another, then doesn't the ultimate concept of the genre fail? Aren't genre's themselves defined by certain bands? Honestly I don't give a shit use titles and names if you want it doesn't matter to me. Maybe I'm biased, I try to listen to music thats about the fucking music, about the raw emotion, music that doesn't give a shit about structure and vocal stylings. If the music connects to you, do you really care that its Hot Topic Metal or Doom Black Death Small Weiner Metal? And this isn't an attack on Amarok I know that he has good music taste for the most part. It's mostly an attack on people who like shit because they're told to like it, or like shit because they're not supposed to like it (that makes sense shut up), or people that know more about music then you because they brag about their tattoos and peircings or how many studs are on their jackets, the problem I see is that people don't understand what music is really all about anymore. But what do I know I'm full of shit mostly.
