She's 15-16 years old. When you're 15-16, you're capable of making decisions for yourself unless you're really dumb or sheltered. 16 is a normal age these days to discover sex. When I was 16 and my mom found out about me, she wanted to send me to an all girls' Catholic school (even though we're not catholic) and grounded me for a long time, but once she wised up, she put me on the pill.
If at some point you do realize your kid sister is/will be having sex, instead of putting her in an awkward situation by confronting her and telling her sex is bad, you should make sure she understands the importance of birth control pills and condoms. You shouldn't have to worry about some guy knocking up your sister if your sister is smart, and you've taught her about birth control.

Sounds like you're embarassed about some of the things you did when you were 15. Your brain doesn't change much after the age of about 2, so the only thing you could base that statement on would be the length of time that you've experienced since then. But different people have different experiences that they learn different lessons from. Admittedly, this kid sounds as though he's had the left side of his brain lobotomized.

A friend of mines sister got pregnant about a year ago, at the time the whole family was, the mum wanted to kick her out the house (the whole "if you're old enough to have a baby you're old enough to live alone" shit), the dad wanted to kill the kid that got her pregnant, no one would talk to her. After about 3 months shit started to cool down, everyone started to come to their senses and it was pretty normal again (as normal as can be at least). You see, the proper thing to do would be to caution her, tell her to be careful and whatever, but that most of the times isn't the case, people gotta make mistakes in order to live a better life. The baby is 2-3 months old now, cute as hell, it's funny cause it seems like no one gives a damn after the baby is born

They would probably agree with you that it's the responsibility of the mothers and fathers to keep their children from having sex until an older age. No, my argument is that sex is very dangerous and can ruin your life. If you boink the wrong person, you can wind up with something that will never go away- genital warts, herpes, babies, hepatitis, HIV. Teenagers are irrational, male and female- they do not fully have a grasp that something that affects them for the rest of their lives will affect them for the rest of their lives. (A lot of adults do not seem to understand this either, but that is a different issue.)

My opinion is that it's best to just make them aware of the danger and allow them to decide what to do from there. It's hard to teach good decision making, it's one of those things where you kind of do need to learn by mistakes and can't just idealistically float through life on everyone else's advice, avoiding every problem.

I don't think it is a different issue. It's my point exactly. Grasping the concept that you're talking about is not an age thing. Some teenagers are quite rational, some adults aren't. If the only way for them to learn is by having that affect them for the rest of their lives then maybe it's better that way. Maybe they won't learn the lesson now, just take your word for it, and then have something even worse happen to them in the future.
