managed to do bookshelves from 94-95, on fairy they cost ~90k each to make and were selling for 140k at the time (although kinda slow). Then someone dropped the price to 100k after which I was the only one selling them, they moved much quicker and I was able to make a small profit while avoiding the horror of cythara angelicas for 1 level.
I guess people buy these because they're the highest storage AH-purchasable furniture that gives moghancement: fire... and they look pretty cool.

cythara angelicas are pretty cruddy, I'm desynthing them since getting 1-2 ancient lumber, 1-2 ebony lumber, and 1-2 coeurl whiskers back far outweighs just NPCing them all for 5.5k. Still, losing 60k is well... I probably shouldnt complain or aurik will slaughter me.

Is the plural of Angelica "Angelicas" or "Angelicae"?

Sooo.... continuing this... after spending way too much gil on cythara angelicae (all of my LSs brds have signed ones now lol) I've been working on the hardest stretch of woodworking: 98-100.

At 98 I'm synthing pretty much anything I can get my hands on.

My LS has a few ENM statics that get something like 2-3 pieces of cassia lumber a week. Primate staves (cap 99) are kinda lossy (550k to make, AH price 400k) and the synth is kinda complex but I'm holding on to the few I've made until 99. My friend has alchemic ensorcellment so I'll have her make the ethereal vermillion lacquer and upcraft these to kinkobo (cap ~102) and sell (also AHs for 400k).

I lucked out about 2 weeks ago as the other person in my level range must have hit 99, leaving the supply of lancewood (cap 99) exclusively for me. I picked up about 6 logs at the AH, and after my LS did 2 dynamis windys in a row (h8 h8 h8 dynamis windy orz) I had about 4 more. Skill gain on lancewood is shitty for some odd reason.

Adaman ingots aren't really that easy to get, maybe 3-4 up at the AH at a time which I usually just buy up and save for darksday/iceday to make Iron Splitters (cap 100). Earlier it was suggested I leave my smithing skill low (~48) to induce failure and chance non-critical loss while still getting woodworking skill. IMO this seemed unreasonable... in my experience failures with a 12 level gap would be frequent and overwhelmingly critical- or at least involve losing the ingot more often than not.

Soooo I got smithing up to 55, figuring a 5 level gap would work nicely. With darksday/iceday facing east I've been failing these synths quite often and not losing too many ingots. A good number of my skillups have been off of critical failures, which I'm not terribly bummed about since a successful synth is almost as much of a loss (you only get adaman back from desynth on HQ3 and it's only 6x nuggets).

From what I've seen non-critical failures on these don't result in skillup all that often- only .1 from them so far but if you consider it's ~40 synths per level, just losing the lumber allows for more synths with the same material. Yesterday for example I had 4 adaman ingots:

Non critical failure, lost ingot: 2
    Skillups: .1

Non critical failure, lost lumber: 3
    Skillups: 0

    Successful synth: 2
    Skillups: .1

Getting .2 from only 4 ingots seems unreasonable, even on iceday. But as you can see, the non-critical lumber failures seem to simulate synthing with more materials- essentially the same as having 7 adaman ingots to play with which my skillup rate is consistent with. I've had a few smithing skill gains as well, hopefully I can remain below 56 until I cap out at 100 woodworking (currently 55.5 or 55.6).

    Sorry for length D:

    /cheer!!

So what was your final carnage tally?

I'm slowly mustering the courage to do the same for 98-99 clothcraft. 300k loss per synth All Right!

Where the fuck do you get all that cash Atre? O.o You can't possibly tell me TG alone rakes all that in, I know you guys do a lot of ENMs, but damn o.O

I'm working on the same shit, but, like, I'm this thing called poor so I farm the majority of my materials XD My 5-year plan is 100 Clothcraft -.-

    Chocobo digging lvl 10

    edit:
    My 5-year-plan for capping clothcraft:
    -level to 99
-wait for SE to implement a decent lv100 synth

Proof that 100 clothcraft is a myth:

they just need to implement an uber arrow with a fletching that caps at 100 cloth...

    I'm thinking

    Earth Crystal
    +Wyrm Arrowheads
    +Divine Lumber
    +Hippogryph Fletchings

    >_>

Maybe Antlion Arrowheads, Ancient Lumber, and Phoenix Fletchings would be more reasonable <_<

i thought mouse was 100 b4 whm body was out, the few that are 100 on bahamut made dalmatica and errant cape, given the server has around 100 dalmatica and 100 errant capes thats enough to actually support around 6 ppl to 100 by now

Yeah, odds are it would be something a RNG *couldn't* use, thus making any profit on it entirely negated. C'mon Atre, you know SE better than that >O

it was a joke. if that was a real synth the arrows would cost 400k each.

I helped my friend get her woodworking to 100.. cause those adaman ingots are expensive.. I think I must have got close to 30 of them. x.x

She returned the favor by making me a...

Just a quick question and some comments.

Did you have any wind enhancements at all to reduce material losses from failures?

It's not mentioned here and I would suspect that you didn't. I am going to stock 25 wicker baskets in the mog to get to Overwhelming Wind.

Also, your smithing level was 55. 5 levels is within the success range for synthing. I am going to leave my smithing at 50. a Full 10 levels before the cap. This would allow for a chance at a synth but the break rate should be an easy 90%.

    My current setup:

25 Wicker baskets overwhelming wind energy
20 Adaman Ingots (omg the gil spent)
    96.2 Wood
    50.0 Smithing

I will synth with only my gloves to bring me within 3. Once I hit 97 the gloves come off!

I have put nearly every last gil I possess into this, I hope it works. If not then I will at least teach others not to be as stupid as me.

    Bah I should just register.

As I was getting set to do my experience I realized that Wicker baskets are onry +2 wind. This means that I can only get 50 mogenhancement which is not at all as powerful as I liked.

I'll push forward at the moment but if I find I am losing ingots I may need to raise my smithing to 52.0

i wouldnt start iron splitters before 98, honestly it's just cheaper to do cythara angelica to cap and if possible, lancewood lumber/primate staves to 99.
