is the sound card you had intergrated? did you disable it from the bios etc. You can also try resetting that too, you never know. Little things like that sometimes make a world of a diff..

If not, it could be your motherboard, try moving the sound card to another PCI slot and check that the IRQ's aren't getting mixed up.

Are you having problems with any other games on your PC? If not then it might be a problem with FF and you can wait for another POL update (.......) or try the old pol.exe

Hmm I kinda have a simular problem. Its a bit different tho. I have my good video card, it never gave me problems. About 2 weeks ago it DCs me, "VPU error" stuff like that. I get it a few times, it slowly gets worse, eventualy I am getting DCed within minutes and blue screen of death. So I go and test my video card in friends PC, oh what ya know, it works just fine at max possible setting. So ive figure out it cant be video card. But yet I can use his peice of crap video card in my PC and play =/ I cant quite figure it out, and I dont think there is any way it can be my good video card. Also I now get "network disconnected" about every 5 mins now but only for a split second then it reconnects. Tried reformating doesnt help. I think its my motherbored, anyone else agree? Oh yeah it use to crash in Pol also. So im confused.

Try contacting a GM through POL service and support? They're the ones that handle technical stuff, might be able to give ya an answer.

Darkvalentine is right, afew weeks ago there was a SP2 URGENT patch that installed without me accepting anything, causing my machine to restart with a 60 Second warning.

hey amarok is your Computer connected to a network router? cause i had have problems with that too. if u do Try run FFXI with out the router to see if it keeps d/cing u.

could be a faulty network card, cable, or the modem. If you have any spare of these items that are known to be good i would check those 1st. I had a cable modem intermittenly d/c me from the game, once i replaced it my troubles went away

Wow, only a handful of you pay attention to what he is saying. This happens to me too. I CtD (Crash to Desktop) not DC (Disconnect). My game would just CtD and give me a "Playonline Error" and sends and error report to microsoft.

Zigma, I give you credit because you payed attention and gave possible solutions. Another thing I would add is to check your registry for mismatches. I ran a registy fix program and i found 60+ errors, most dealing with crashing drivers and computer restarts. After I fixed this my game ran for hours on end non stop.

I also contacted POL about this problem and they told me that I had incompatible hardware. (Mind you I've been playing the game for over a year straight with no problems on my current setup). When I updated the game (POL and FFXI) I started to encounter problems. When I spoke to a representative, he said it was my built in soundcard on my motherboard that wasn't compatible. (Please read a couple lines up about playing the game for over a year) So I went ahead and purchased a new video card and sound card. Disabled the built in sound card thru bios. Same thing kept happening. I then reformatted my computer, installed all the correct updated drivers, windows hotfixes, sp2, etc.. and it was working perfect.... up until the next update. But at this point I had installed a bunch of things... Windower, FFXI Utils, Parser, ModelViewer, etc.. So I really couldn't pinpoint the problem. Then the problem would continue onto with Internet Explorer, Modelviewer, basically anything I was running. Then I tried the registry fix.. And miraculously my pc started working better. Less crashes, faster booting, etc.

You should look into this, maybe that can help you out some.

I had this problem on my laptop last semester, but only when I was connecting to the school network in class, but never at home. Further, it didn't happen unless I was connected to the network, if I sat there not online, nothing would happen. I fixed it by disabling one of the network features/programs but I don't remember which one, research it online and you'll be able to fix it. But this thread wasn't about this error in the first place so I don't know why it was brought up.
