What a bullshit response. You should send SE an e-mail complaining about it. Or you should've done what phone CS would tell you and "ask for a senior GM" (like they'd give you one anyway). Either way it's complete bullshit that a gilseller can openly admit to selling gil, which is explicitly against the TOS, and a GM won't do a thing about it. Regardless of whether or not the GM would have the right to do anything on the spot, or whether or not the person who asks could be considered equally culpable, that's at *least* enough reason to actually look into the situation and monitor their activities. Like I've said before, a gilseller who goes and MPKs/claim steals and basically ruins the game environment is 10 times worse for the average player than the person who buys from them.

If someone asked you if you sold gil, would you even jokingly say yes about it, knowing that GMs can look at logs and knowing that it's against the TOS?

The problem isn't necessarily that the GM didn't take immediate action. The problem is that the GM basically didn't even care that it's possible that these people, who I'm sure have been reported for it before, might potentially be violating FFXI's own TOS.

Now here's the thing. SE made a big to-do about amending their user agreement to explicitly point out that buying and selling gil/items from the game is a terminable offense. If they make such a big deal about it and actually started doing something about it, why are they backing down now? If they're going to go out of their way to try and improve the game in that regard, they might as well take it seriously when someone says in-game that they sell gil.

Yeah, but claiming that "Because you ask them if they sell gil implies that you are looking to buy gil," or even claiming that them saying yes is weak evidence of a TOS violation, still doesn't adequately defend a complete negligence of the issue by a GM. Hell I could care less if the GM just said "We'll look into the matter," even if he was lying through his teeth, but to flat out say "No I'm not going to do anything about it" is disgraceful and an insult to the game.
