i think WoW is more casual gamer-friendly than ffxi. 1-60 is like getting from 1-20 in ffxi.
i play maybe 1-2 hours monday-thursday and 3-4 weekends, been playing a week after it came out.
60 Night Elf warrior Aggramar (pve server) only a Corporal (quit him)
60 Undead Rogue - Crushridge (pvp) ranked Champion.
41 Tauren Druid - Crushridge , Grunt.
I played WoW for 2 months before realizing i put too much time and effort into FFXI to just throw it away for a new game. I only played WoW because since i quit EQ and reading about it on FoH forums/LoS forums i thought it was gonna be the next EQ and waited patiently for it. Then PSO and FFXI came along and i knew that i probably wouldn't quit FFXI for any other came until i absolutely detested it.
My thoughts on this.

I was a lvl 65 RDM and other various jobs by the time I quit FFXI. When I joined WoW I really enjoyed the game for it's content, graphics, and overall gameplay of the game. The characters are more diverse, interactable, and personable. When you dance, you actually dance! I was blown away by the game and continue to play it. You can get to 60 ALL ALONE! Grinding in FFXI was the worst. It took forever to get to 65 eventhough I heard that they fixed the lvl exp.
Endo, come to wow. I miss you and you would be a great addition to our guild. I'll never stop till you're on wow and in my guild. HEHHEHEHAHA hya hya!
I went and played WoW for two or three months before coming back to ffxi, so I guess I've seen most of what both games have to offer.
WoW from 1-59 takes probably about as long as FFXI from 1-50, or maybe 1-55. It seems even faster because you can actually solo effectively. The idea of characters forming a party to sit in one spot and kill mobs for XP is totally foreign; People just don't do that at all. Also, doing quests draws you through the areas and forces you to actually see/explore/kill everything, not just sit at one of a handful of safe campsites for your entire time in the region, so it feels like less of a grind. (Although sitting at one camp and killing everything, ignoring quests, is still the fastest way to level)
WoW at level 60 is also pretty different. Endgame content is based on dungeon crawls instead of camps, sort of like Dynamis only without the "farming for af2" feel to it. You reach the end and kill a boss, who drops some loot. You might find a couple nice drops on the way there, but it's certainly not the focus of the trip like in Dynamis. The problem is there just isn't a whole lot of endgame content out there yet. The biggest challenge is Molten Core, which is closest to Dynamis-Xarcabard in difficulty - A handful of guilds on each server have beat the dungeon, but not many. However, everybody is working at it, since there simply isn't anything else to do in the >15-person raid department. There's Onyxia, but in order to get access to that you need to finish a long-ass quest series (about as long as getting a sky pass), so not as many people have done it. (Onyxia is easier than MC anyway)
All the loot-dropping bosses are at the end of instanced dungeons, so there is no mob-claiming bullshit. At all. There are two "outdoor" raid mobs similar to HNMs in FFXI, and they're on a fairly variable spawn timer (like wyrms) so they can't really be camped. Plus, if somebody on the opposite faction does get the claim, you can kill them all and take it.
FFXI, overall, simply has more to do. We all talk about how sick of sky we're getting, but the simple fact is that there is a whole lot of large group endgame-ish content around. Triggered NMs, Promathia missions, sky itself, rank missions, dynamis - WoW has none of that. Just a handful of raid instances and a couple of outdoor mobs that few guilds bother with anyway because you can just bring 40 people and zerg them.
The game worlds of FFXI and WoW both have pretty interesting lore/history, but FFXI does a better job at drawing it out with the cutscenes and missions. WoW's lore is fairly interesting too, but you don't see much of it in-game... You have to go reading websites to find out about the world.
That's pretty much all I can think of right now.
WoW is fun, and great for the casual game player that has 40 friends to do anything end game with. I thought get 20-30 people together was bad! I would say Strat and Scholo are fun, but i am totally unimpressed with MC.
The problem with WoW is they pitched it as a game that you can do a lot of stuff solo or smaller groups, yet there isn't anything useful you can do solo at lvl 60. I guess you can 5 man Strat/Scholo, but it gets a little old and is really hard to do. They basically cut the game off at mid lvl 50's for anyone that isn't in a uber, huge, high end raiding guild. We all know how rough an end game pick-up raid group can be.-> http://warcraftmovies.com/movieview.php?id=1934
Another thing I really miss about FFXI is the game actually having a storyline with some cut-scenes. WoW is kinda lacking in the plot department..lol
Just my 2 cents :D
Pengyou 60 Warlock Eldre'Thalas
Skittle 22 Rogue Skywall
Blackwing Lair released... and everybody is blocked from progressing because the door after the 2nd boss won't open.![]()
Then again, someone said it well when they said "better buggy content than no content."Guess I'll have to settle for my awesome NPC companion who will be able to help me kill bumblebees outside windurst.
Hey, watch it there. Those bumblebees can be very wily.Originally Posted by Quicklet
Another thing to like about WoW is there are no Japanese players and thus there is none of all the politics and bitching which is prevalent in FFXI. No "JP Party Onry" and no JP's claiming the mob before it appears etc. No "gaijin" remarks either. Also, as stated, while there may be some Chinese gilsellers their impact on the game world is nowhere near as extensive as it is in FFXI. Blizzard is far stricter with enforcing the ToS, making SE's liberal stance seem laughable.
That and it is just incredibly easy to get money in WoW so its a less attractive game to gil sellers.
guild politics exist very actively still
and for some reason the gilsellers wont go away even tho i purposely mpk them and try to get horde on irc to go kill them for me. fucking assholes -_-;;
the first 2 bosses are easier than they're supposed to be, so everyone's trying to do them before tuesday (which will be easy) so we can get some (basically free) loot.
they broke polymorph in pvp lol. the 2nd poly pops them out of poly but still look like a sheep. our beloved wooly buddies are rebelling against us![]()
I heard right after the patch Ragnaros was bugged so that he'd call up his sons of flame 2 seconds into the fight.![]()
It's fun at first, but not when you have like 50 people standing around in town dancing all fucking day causing tons of lag.Originally Posted by ben chi(f4)
