No. It's worse than that.
RNG is now the worst melee in the game. Let the flames begin.

Maybe thats why its the worst melee.Originally Posted by Genosync

Technically it does state that Dark Knights should be the king of damage-dealing. Isn't it odd that these previous updates seem to be so generous to DRKs?
I would agree with Layoneil, that both nerfs regarding distance and damage ratios is one nerf too many. Personally, the distance thing sounds a little out of whack, primarily because setting up SATA isn't very feasible, secondly because if you want the ranger to deal good damage in a skillchain, you either need to:
A) set the skillchain ender (not RNG) next to the RNG starting the skillchain and expect/hope the target comes up to the RNG
B) make the RNG end a skillchain so you don't deal with all the RNG relocating the target (a problem when it comes to making Distortion)
C) have a really really good and solid grip on enmity
D. Un-gimp the job
You can't please everyone, people complained cause RNGs were too strong (and they really were) now people complain that RNGs are too weak, it's about making the majority happy, and considering it took SE THIS long to gimp RNGs think about how long it'll take them to buff the job up again, if they ever do.Originally Posted by Genosync

from what i heard its when ur up close you have less ranged Acc and ranged attack. a few things im worried about: kirin/ fafnir fights, soloing with crossbow and such(using bloody/acid bolts etc)
I know that this update has crippled what rangers used to be able to do, but I was thinking about what it's been doing to samurais and thieves.
Thieves rely on status bolts to solo tougher mobs. The closer you are to the mob now, the lower your ranged accuracy is going to be (from my limited experience with ranged attacks post-patch). This will make it harder for thieves to land those status bolts.
With samurais, they could do awesome damage with bows. But, since samurais are up-front fighters, their bow damage is severely lowered.
For instance, I was exping in Lower Delkfutt Tower. I pulled a goblin, from which I assume was the sweetspot, and I hit for 99 damage. However, after getting back to the party, I shot point blank and scored a critical hit. It only did 76 damage.

Nevermind, I thought caps would make it work. ; ; maybe it's a dynamic pic? anywho back on topic, /comfort gimped RNGs
It makes no sense to have lower acc when you're closer to the mob, lower atk closer to the mob makes sense, but only for arrows, and crossbows (maybe), guns are pretty dangerous from any range provided they connect.Originally Posted by Squallblade
I could only get through 2 pages before the drama got too thick. The problem was not that the Ranger job was broken, but that end-game mobs are broken.
But anyway, the important part.

I can't wait to actually get to fight with him though.
The problem is incentive in my opinion. What incentive does a Ranger now have to level their job or do any endgame activities? You lose money to be an average or less then average job. It's no surprise that most people playing Ranger are playing it as their second or third job, there's no reason to even take your AF out of storage anymore in that case.
The only other job that pisses away money is Ninja, and they still have incentive to level. Every other job invests gil in armor or weapons that can always be sold - in fact if trends continue they'll probably make money by holding on to the item due to the economy.
In any case, this wasn't the right way to nerf Ranger. The right way would be to either enhance other jobs so they could actually do better damage to high level monsters (making having Ranger's a bonus rather then a necessity) or continue making new HNM's like the wyrms that have a defense bonus on ranged attacks.
sense does not matter in this game.Originally Posted by Elcura

"in reality you can sheath a sword than reach for a knife in a few seconds. in FFXI, you get penalized for changing your weapon, but getting completely naked and putting on a whole new set of armor, rings, necklaces, belts and capes is perfectly acceptable."
I was hitting for 8-12 last night in dynamis-xarcard with DS bolts and o-bow vs some of the NMs, standard mobs were 20-30ish
I kinda agree, but then again what's there to penalize when it comes to armour? I bet if there was something it would be penalizable (is that even a word?)Originally Posted by layoneil

doesn't Ballista penalize for changing equips?
i've never done it, so i don't know.
would be huge for strategy imo.
It does, but that's ALL equipment changed and it's only in ballista -- which not many people care that much about.Originally Posted by layoneil
Yes, you become temporarily immobilized and uncapable to do anything. If you keep switching equipment it'll be longer. Hence why RDM got screwed with that since we can really only use one set of equipment when we go to ballista >.>Originally Posted by layoneil
