I say lvl brd to 75(my answer to everything^^)
Or go with mnd/int merits i doubt you'll notice the str diffrence but go str if your gonna lvl war. meriting sword is great for rdm/pld and war a win win situation^^

If you want Merits for melee RDM, I'd have, Crit%, Interuption Down or -Crits taken, Sword skill, Evasion and an even number of hp/mp merits. The most important thing about RDM solo is your skill though, then maybe your gear and finally your enemy... how much you know about them, and how you'd counter their moves and shit.
Don't forget Suppanomimi, sword skill+5 on there (unless you went for Abyssal for the RDM/DRK thing, though nothing can really save RDM base dark magic rating :D )Originally Posted by Septimus
I wouldn't say that. With Abyssal, Dark Torque, Crimson Hands, and Pluto's Staff I usually get pretty good Drains and Aspirs from VT and higher mobs. I still can't drain/aspir for crap on Gods but considering I still can't enfeeble them consistantly with A+ enfeebling, max enfeebling merits, torque, wise gear, and HQ staves....Originally Posted by Rex
Hmm, true enough. Was mainly thinking of the fact that any random job/37drk won't get stun resisted unless it's on kirin or one of them fancy new CoP NMs, so rdm losing some dark skill wouldn't be a big loss. But as far as solo goes, red mages probably wouldn't be touching any VT/IT mobs in that respect, so drains/aspir would still be good enough, and sword skill may be better if you just wanna go solo outfit all the way
I was dumb enough to let certain people talk me into getting an Abyssal. ("It has 2 INT! OMGBBQKITTENS its so good for RDM!" Assholes.)Originally Posted by Rex

Junk it and do DM again (I won't be held responsible if you can't flag quest again, just from what I've been told you can redo quest but only if you lose the first earring)![]()
Also I see you're elvaan so that rse automaton ear > all for elvaan rdm (or blm)
Sept's a dirty hume.![]()
I've heard that you lose it forever, so I am not taking that chance.Originally Posted by Rex
I just wish I could get a second one. And that I could also get a Rashas Ring too.
Is it an inside BG joke that you guys call a Rajas Ring a Rashas Ring?
Just curious, and yes the ring owns.
I don't have one, so it's not like I see it all the time to know how it is spelled. ;_;Originally Posted by Raineer
lol...no offense intended, it's just like the 4th time in the forums I've seen spell it that way. You'll be happy when you can get it, and then enjoy defending to others why you take a melee ring as an RDM (since Tamas does nothing beyond -3enmity for RDM)
I already have a Tamas Ring. Snow ring + aqua ring + ether ring in one inventory spot, I could not justify not getting it. (Especially since there is so much level capped bullshit that they insist on putting in this game.)Originally Posted by Raineer
And actually I think that -enmity is generally worthless for RDM except in unnatural situations. (Crappy tanks, stunning a lot.) Other than spamming Cure IV, there is not a whole lot a RDM can do to piss off a HNM. (Eat my 11 damage Thunder 3!)
Yeah having a Snow Ring + Aqua Ring + Ether Ring that also has -3 enmity all in one slot is terrible for RDM. But the Rajas ring with its +5STR and +5 DEX is essential to a RDM.(since Tamas does nothing beyond -3enmity for RDM)
beat me to it.Originally Posted by Amarok

#1 I'm leaving the -3 enmity out of the equation, i'll grant you it's betterOriginally Posted by Amarok
#2 If you can explain to me why I need 5 INT, 5 MND, 30 MP on one ring when I already have Aqua,Snow and Ether let me know
Would it save me 2 inventory slots? Yes
Would it save me like 4 million gil? Yes
Does it make me a better mage AT ALL? No
Conversly, the Rajas Ring is the most insane ring possible for melee since STR/DEX/Store TP/Subtle Blow *all* work at the same time. In the realm of soloing, all those stats together are unreal.
It won't make you a better mage with Snow/Aqua/Ether neither, nor having Rajas.
Actually, it would make you a better mage as you'd have an extra line to macro in a different piece of equipment instead of having to use it to macro in a ring. For example, it gives me the ability to macro in my Wise Cap for enfeebles and my AF1 hat for nukes where before I didn't have enough lines to macro it in.Originally Posted by Raineer
Sorry, but if I remember correctly, RDMs needed INT and MND, so why exactly WOULDN'T you want the mage ring? As other people said, you save 3 INV spaces, you save money (or gain more) and you have everything all rolled into 1. MND and INT will make your spells stronger, it will make your stoneskin last longer, it will make your slow more... slow-ie, it will make your paralyze proc more often, it will make your nukes stronger, your convert more effecient and most importantly, WHAT THE FUCK ELSE WOULD USE?
In short, yes the mage ring makes you a better RDM, even if the -enmity is useless (in your eyes) you still get a lot out of the MND INT and MP. Besides, -enmity means you don't have to worry about things as much when hate is pretty sensitive.
For melee RDMs, rings are as so - +enspells, STR or ACC. RDMs do not need +DEX, we don't need +Subtle or +StoreTP for solo.
