    HNM Training?

Hey, I have been in my 1st Linkshell, Chronic (on Pandemonium), since I was a level 7 WAR without a sub. And now, with over 130 job levels on my back, and tons more members, we're finally planning on trying out a few low-tier HNMs.

I was wondering if someone could post or PM some hints. Like what are some mobs we should train on, how many members we would need, what kind of tank would be best (nin? pld?), tips for getting accurate ToDs, and other essentials.

    Thanks all~

Start off with Serket if you could ever win the pull and not get MPKed by gilsellers, he's easy as hell. The other two newb HNMs are Simurgh and Roc.

For just starting out, I'd take 12 to them if you could, NIN tank is always preferred on almost any HNM, but a PLD can do it just fine if he doesn't suck, Lv65+ is a must and 70+ is preferred for either if they don't have a lot of experience tanking big stuff.

As for strats, well, you can figure that stuff out yourself, just research mobs and their abilities =P

And getting ToDs, keep track after maint always. Maint ended at 4am PST two days ago, so no time will be before 10pm PST, so use that for a range and have people keep eyes out on something you want to kill.

Genbu. Farm the items in sky and go. He is by far the the easiest HNM in the game... If you really want a tough(er) fight, try going for Ash Dragon in Ifrit's Cauldron. He's almost always up. Don't expect any really good drops, though he does drop a few (Dragon Talon for Weskits.. I'm not sure on drop rate and he's really not worth farming). Amikiri (Low VC drop rate.), Ungur are good ones to play with (Ungur's Boomerang. NIN's will drool.). Other than those, most other ground HNMs are camped and anything else in sky is too hard.

Edit: Too hard for a completely beginner LS.
Also, while what Ankiseth said is true, Serket, Simurgh, and Roc are good beginner HNMs, you'll never be able to claim them. Gilsellers will also MPK you without a second thought if they're able to. Secondly, a few people will try to camp Amikiri every so often for hopes of a Venomous Claw, but it's extremely low. You'd be better off farming Genbu for them. I only mentioned him because as a bunch of begninners, he'll give you a fight.

Aspi is better with a PLD

And Amikiri is 6x worse than Serket to practice on, just because he uses Death Scissors all the freaking time, and Serket is just a pansy with a tough poison attack.

If you just want to go in for the fun and not the drops, you might want to look at HNM's that drops less expensive stuff. A good start is Guivre wich is almost always up and it's rarely killed. Here is a list of NM's I think is a good start for your linkshell:

    Guivre(24h pop?): http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/bestiary.html?fmob=1519

    Lumber Jack(24h pop!): http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/bestiary.html?fmob=539

Roc (21-24h, rarely camped on my server, dunno about yours.): http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/bestiary.html?fmob=587

Bloodtear Baldurf (dunno spawnconditions on this one): http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/bestiary.html?fmob=1514

    Tyrranic Tunnok (lotto pop): http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/bestiary.html?fmob=1679

    Hope it helps.

Yeah, we've already started out doing a few basic things like Ungur, Charybdis, Adamantoise, and other things. We're planning on doing Lumberjack as soon as we get Weeping Willow ToD.

A RDM in our LS wants us to try Bune for Enhancing Sword though, could we do that this early or should we wait to get more experienced at the whole HNM scene?

And also, do all 21-24 hour HNMs work the same? (Like say Fafnir dies at 24:00, that means he can pop at 21:00, 21:30, 22:00, 22:30, etc.)

Guivre and LJ are HNMs and pretty simple fights. Guivre sucks though, and is worthless, LJ is a nice one though. Just bring some BLMs or DRKs to practice with stunning -ga for Gods, etc.

Roc is camped like hell on every server, no way it wouldn't be touched with the way gilsellers are.

Bloodtear and Steelfeece are both HNMs but they are so weak it's not worth the trouble to try and practice on it.

And tunnok, once again, not going to be too practical. If you want practice in a fight not too related to higher end HNMs and Gods, then do some BQ and Haku runs, those practice stunning, damage, teamwork, management, etc.

Yes, but they'll have a better chance of fighting him then they do Serket. And we both know if they managed the claim, they'd struggle a little yes, but also Gilsellers would MPK so fast they'd wipe before they knew what happened.

Yes.. Hakutaku. Stunning is key to winning. You'll need quick Stuns and quick Silena/Paralynas to survive. I'd recommend 18 for first timers, but when you get it down he's extremely easy for 6 if they're set up right. (I think we did it with NIN, WHM, RDM, BRD, BLM, BLM once.)

He is an HNM, just like Bloodtear and Steelfleece who can be soloed by a Lv70 THF. Or serket who can be soloed by a NIN75 or THF75. Or CC or Bune who can be soloed by a RDM/NIN.

Just because it can be easy for some, doesn't mean it's not an HNM =P

Well, consider the fact that most of us here have experience fighting HNMs and we know what to expect and how to counter it. These guys have never fought anything then an IT++ XP mob.

My advice is to start with Tu'lia. Hunting the triggers will filter out those that don't have the patience for the whole HNM scene and the Gods are very nicely staggered in their difficulty. When you can destroy Genbu move onto Suzaku. When you can handle Suzaku move onto Seiryu then finally onto Byakko. I can't really think of anything in the game that's better training than Tu'lia.

OOO man, I almost forgot. What about some of the CoP NMs? Like Boroka or something. Also someone in my LS wants to fight Shen, when can we start doing things like Shen, Alastor Ant, and that Bugboy NM?

ENMs would sort of work too if you do the 18man..

you can really TRY anything you want to... the best training is to try anything and everything you have a chance to, even if you are going to lose. As for Shen, boroka, etc.. not too hard. Shen's difficulty is directly connected to the number of blm you have, if you have a lot he is rediculously easy if you only have 1 or 2 he can be very hard. But yeah, if you want a good way to slowly gauge your strength, tu'lia is best. Go from one god to the next and people will get the hang of it pretty fast. Just don't be afraid of losing, none of it is really all that hard>.>

lol, sorry for all the questions, but i have a few more

Right now, my highest job is 62 RNG but my LS has quite a few 70+ and everything, but I'm really the only one who is trying to lead this whole thing. So when could I start getting into the fights and actually be doing something rather then just organizing and such?

In a nutshell, what's the minimum level to start sky gods and such?

You'd just be shooting money at HNMs for 0 damage at 62.. Save yourself time and trade it your gil.
