No one seems to know what doctor status accomplishes though, but it seems people no longer get clusters and at worse get cerment chunks now.

Ive never understood how any of this ever worked. I try talking to them normally and I never get a password screen or any of that text to come up.

First you have to trade an Infinity Core and a colored chip (they can be bought by goblin NPCs in the 3 cities during a certain time frame gametime) that match the Appartus. Ex. If the Appartus is Fire, you must trade a Red Chip. Failure to do so will spawn an IT++++++++++ Elemental to a lv75 and it will proceed to kick your ass.

Afterwords you're supposed to enter a password that is said to be given to you during some point of the Zilart Missions, I however don't know how valid that is, so I always used random numbers.

Lastly, you can get random items, ranging from worthless (clusters) to valueable (rune weaponry). I've gotten a Rune Axe or something before that sold for 300k. Got my Core from Dynamis so for paying like 10k or w/e it is for a chip sometimes you make out like a bandit, other times you're screwed.

It's sorta like crafting, dump all your money into something and hope you HQ :D

I never stated 100% it'd work :D I also got an Arcane Flowerpot from doing one of 'em, now I forgot @.x Wasn't Gusgen, might've been Shakhrami, dunno.

Having Doctor status only gives you 100% chance at an item as opposed to clusters. Sadly, alot of the Rune Weapons are worthless and never sell. The large MP drain required to use the latents of these weapons turn away most melees. Cerment chunks and adaman nuggets aren't worth much but hey, you can at least break even. That is if the cores are worth what they originally were. However they're not. Attribute to the downfall of another decent money maker to inflation. Cheers.

1) Without the password you can get a Cluster, Rune Weapon, Arcane Flower Pot, Cerment Chunk, or Adaman Nugget. Now with the method to get the password revealed, you can get any of the above listed items but the Cluster. (trust me you don't want to pay for a 100k Cluster) By the way, all the Rune Weapons are random and not specific to one machine.

2) Yes there are 11 Strange Apparatus, 8 working/3 broken. There are indeed ones in the areas you've mentioned. In fact the Ordells one is located behind a secret wall (they all are) next to one of the Stroper Chyme camps... check out Alla for a full list and ffxi-atlas.com for their locations.

*side note: I was there yesterday and saw the Stroper Chyme unclaimed... LoL Had to kill him once just to make myself feel better about it... no drop! ( T_T)

they are all behind fake walls, which makes them really hard to find. i coached a friend for like 45 minutes before he found where the Eldieme one was, without a code, got 3 Rune Arrows .

How do you know what element an apparatus is? I picked up some cheap infinity cores for 10k a shot today
