If FFXI was a game, and not a group of people/community using a game as an interface for being a community of people, would you still play?

What do you play more? FFXI, or your console/other offline PC games?

On the HNM side of things, I'm going to draw a really big line between two things.

Think about the people that have the most in life. Some have gotten luck streaks, and some have achieved their material possesions through ridiculously hard work.

Look at FFXI. Claiming HNMs, killing them, getting drops. If you don't want to fucking do the work, shut up and get out. I don't wanna hear your little 'we can't get claim whahahahaha we're gay tu'lia ls still' whines. We've all camped stuff ridiculous amounts of times in a row without getting claims, but what do we do that your sky LSes don't do? WE GO BACK AND WE TRY AGAIN.

If everything was left as it was but the other people were removed, no I wouldn't play, because this game requires other people to play. Can I play Monopoly with myself? No, but just because it requires other people to play doesn't make it anything more than a game.

I can leave FFXI for a while if I wanted to and when I come back, everything will still be pretty much the same. I'll still have all my gear, my quests and missions will still be done, and monsters will still repop. Sure, my in game friends and linkshell might be gone and that would suck, but there's other people out there to team up and make friends with.

I don't need to go on to a game to meet people, I do that in real life. Why do I play FFXI? To do stuff I can't do in real life, and have fun. It's not a "world" or anything more than a game. That said, I don't want people doing things to intentionally ruin my fun in this game. "It's just a game" does not give people free reign to MPK, steal items/gil, etc.

Also, I haven't said "it's just a game" as a response to people whining, I have only said it to people who try to claim it's more than a game. What's going to happen in a couple years when your "world" or "community" disappears? What, aside from some fun, will FFXI ever give back to you? Next time you go into work (if you have a job) tell your boss you have a couple level 75 jobs on FFXI and tell him how dedicated you are to it. Maybe that'll get you that next promotion, but I wouldn't count on it.

Please point out where I've cried or whined about anything in this thread...or these forums for that matter. My first post about waiting 3 hours was made jokingly, and the second one was just explaining something. "It's not easy to get claim" does not equal "we can't get claim wahahaha". Take your own advice, reread the past couple posts again, and GO BACK AND TRY AGAIN to prove me wrong.

You work at the local supermarket. You start off in the back stocking shelves (leveling up a job). After a while, you progress to the front counters, and get a little face time (serket, roc, etc). Then you're time comes and you get promoted to manager (genbu, seiryu, kirin, etc). At this point, you're either stuck as the manager, or you save up (get better) and buy out the store/move on to bigger things (3 kings/tiamat/jorm). It is NOT hypocritical to tell someone who is acting like the owner to get the fk back to managing the store.
