Someone gets paid way too much to play a -sport- for the entertainment of others. Do you get paid to play FFXI? Is it your job, career? Do people watch you play on their TV every Sunday? I didn't think so. And even if this WERE close to being relevant, I've still yet to see anyone on a Super Bowl winning team say LOL UR ALL NOOBS.

It's sad that our point is "lost" when you're trying to do nothing more than defend being immature. Because no matter what silly attempts to equate FFXI to real life, one thing will remain constant: The real life thing will continue long after FFXI is gone, and the real life thing will grant you real life benefits while the game will still be nothing more than that... a game.

Of course, you could call it GAME+AOLCHATROOM if you wish.

Anywho Because the people saying it's more than a game have spent about 2 years doing nothing but it and have multiple jobs at 75 and done a lot in the game and is a big part of their rl...without the FFXI world they would be a different person in a sense, making it more than "just a game" in their eyes.

I think if i spent 2 years doing something, working on something, building on something, and perfecting something...It would never be "just a Game"...

Now if i had a lvl 30war/20thf main character then yes it would be "just a game" nothing more nothing less for the simple fact it hasn't changed my life style, i play other games do other things FFXI would just be something i do now and then "just a game"

Now If 90% of my friends in rl are on FFXI and i play the game more than anything else i do, im proud of all the things i have accomplished, i work everyday on it to better myself/character, play with my friends have fun and help some of them out. I can understand why this person would say it's not "just a game" and even get offended. Cause when you "play" FFXI more than you do anything else in the world it becomes more than a game to you, and is just your way of life at the moment.

The thing is both sides are right in this argument...

FFXI is a game if that's what you think/feal it is because it's your life, your lifestyle, your game, and your views. It's something that hardly affects your life and is a small source of entertainment nothing more, it's "just a game" after all.

If you think it's more than "just a game" it obviously is, because it's part of your life it's a part of the way you live. IF you quit FFXI right now it would greatly change your life because it's a part of it and someone calling it "just a game" is insulting how you choose to live your life.


In closing FFXI is what you make it. Call it what you want and someone else may call it differently. FFXI is not the same for everybody that being said their will always be many answers to the same question.

I understand both. It's a game in the end, but yeah.. Most of us here have spent a fair amount of time behind the keyboard working on getting "better" at the game. In the end, it's a game, but for some people, it's been a life style.. They wouldn't know what to do without the game.

We all know FFXI is a game it's a PC game, it's a PS2 game, it's a Video game by definition but when someone makes something a big part of their life no matter what it is, it's subject to change in the view of the user.
