You know, I have a question about these gorgets. -Where- did this information come from that it adds a 0.1 modifier to each hit in your Weapon skill? Actually I take that back, it came from a thread on KI a long time ago. I read that thread. But how does that person know? How on earth could you realistically test such a subtle detail? Maybe the gorgets behave differently when in Skillchain vs. when Soloed. Maybe it not only affects your WS damage, but also the damage of the skillchain itself. If so, that would explain why Light and Dark gorgets require 2 Yovra organs, because it would boost your SC damage. Just throwing a random idea out there, but I thought this 0.1 thing was fishy from the start.
To do some little tests on this theory, I put on some of my STR/VIT gear and went to Xarcabard, as MNK/SAM. For all tests I built TP up on giants and used WS on full HP Evil Eyes. All cases I recorded, both hits of Dragon Kick landed, returning 12% TP. I used Cross-Counters so no form of Double or Triple attack possible, no buffs/debuffs on me or the mobs except for Blaze Spikes on eyes sometimes which has no effect on def or att.
Base stats, these did not change at any time through my tests :
STR 73+46
VIT 75+30
Att 430
100%ish TP Dragon Kick, no neckpiece
DMG TP
839 104%
837 102%
995 103%
951 111%
1027 108%
978 104%
1004 102%
947 105% avg
100%ish TP Dragon Kick, Breeze Gorget
DMG TP
892 111%
852 109%
925 101%
800 102%
837 111%
1010 101%
886 106% avg
300% TP Dragon Kick, no neckpiece
No neck
1374 1359 1314 1374 1199 1070 1169 1339 1056 1347
1260 avg
300% TP Dragon Kick, Breeze Gorget
1446 1366 1153 1367 1245 1134 1470 1142 1414 1376
1311 avg
For the record, on all tests 1 DK 300% with no neckpiece was a half hit (6% return) and 1 300% with Breeze missed entirely. All other WS landed both hits with and without gorget.
Conclusion
Looking at those resulting numbers, the effect (if its actually being triggered at all) seems at best extremely minimal. At 100% TP my WS were stronger (50 more avg) with no neckpiece, while at 300% they were stronger with Breeze (50 more avg). Basically looks like just typical damage variation. Wearing a virtue torque or Auditory Torque with a BRD would probably make a bigger difference I didn't test cause no BRD was that bored as to come just to song me up and activate the latent, I could sub it but then I'd have to redo comparison.. I'll try to get around to it though.
You could theorize that the damage and acc increase would be more noticeable on stuff that isn't Too weak, but I did similar tests before in Dynamis, in xp as /THF and /WAR as well as on gods (although tests on gods were not extensive, since no matter how strong my DK is I'm better off doing Chi Blast swapping in and out with other MNKs). In all those tests I never noticed any real improvement on either DK with Breeze or Asuran with Soil or Shadow. This is why I'm still very much unconvinced that this is how you trigger the latent effect.
Also for reference I have Flame, Snow, Soil, Breeze and Shadow Gorgets. I'd get the last 3, but its kinda hard justifying the effort of killing yovras given the results so far. If those bastards didn't Regen they'd be soloable easily too, but they have permanent 40ish hp/3sec regen.
Have you done simialr testing wearing your Flame Gorget for Asuran Fists?
Addressing divisortheory's SC idea, I did some tests on that as well. However its a little harder to test that aspect (requires someone else with enough free time to mess around with them) and my tests weren't quite as extensive.
Some possibilities I thought of (neither confirmed, tested both a bit but not enough to have a definitive answer)
triggered if your WS closes a skillchain including the element
triggered if your WS follows a skillchain of the element
And about the 0.1 to multiplier info, my thoughts are pretty similar. That sounds very much like it was pulled right out of his ass.
Fragmentation is Wind+Thunder
Wind only is Detonation.
According to the OP, Dragon Kick should be affected by both Breeze Gorget and Thunder Gorget.
*edit* and yeah I did test Asuran Fists with Soil, Shadow and Flame, the fact that those 3 are Asuran's elements is the reason I originally got them.
Well have you tried Flame Gorget for Asuran Fists? Maybe it doesn't work for Lv. 2 or 3 WS elements, but only Lv. 1 elements. Would kinda suck, but certainly possible I would think. If that is how it works though, Flame Gorget should still work for Asuran Fists considering it's secondary element is Liqeufaction, a Lv. 1.
EDIT: On second though, I don't think I've ever even heard a confirmed report of someone saying "Yea, I tested it. It definitely worked." For any combination of Weapon Skill / Gorget. Ever. How did that information even get started that it was related to the WS element? Maybe it's more simple, it just activates on the corresponding day of the week.
I wish it was the day, that was my original theory. I started working on these items the 1st week Al'Taieu was released.
I tested day, weather and sc element combinations and have yet to find out anything, and all the posts I see on forums seem to be based on what was in some other post, no damage parses to back anything up (speaking of which I wish I could run a parser on PS2).
RKenshin made a post on Allakhazam somewhat recently here: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.html ... 397&num=29
He tested Sidewinder on lv0 mobs with the gorget. He came to the conclusion that it was 5% increase to acc and dmg although I don't see how. His pictures don't even support that conclusion. Anyway, the pictures do show very minimal difference when using the gorget... around 40 dmg.
Have you all ever thought that maybe SE doesn't listen to us or pay attention to their own game? That maybe they assume weapon skills are overpowered for melees and mages can never get enough?
Maybe SE never intended for melees to really get better. Only work much harder for severe diminishing returns.
well if that rangers test is indeed true, that rules out the fact that it must be Attribute 1.
I've used Flame Gorget with Asuran Fists, and was able to produce a few 1400+ Asuran Fists completely unbuffed.

As most monks would have noticed, regardless of the mob you're fighting, Asuran Fists has kind of a soft cap of 1300 dmg range completely unbuffed (no souleater, no songs, etc). Maybe it's different for Elvaans, but I've never broke 1400+ before.

The damage range when using a Gorget varies so often, that it's very hard to tell if it's even working or not sometimes.
Souleater?
MNK/DRK rules, you just die so easy![]()
which mobs drop the gorgets >_>?
