Of course it turned into a "Why my job should get Herald's Gaiters first" thread. Look at the title... it's about job priority on a particular drop. I answered the OPs question as to what my LS does while others chimed in saying who needs it and who doesn't etc starting an arguement which in the end may influence the OP's judgement and perhaps reconsider certain issues.

Of course you won't cry for not having it, much like when WHMs join HNMLS they often don't come with their own Noble's Tunic yet are able to perform their job just fine. Should I consider a Noble's Tunic a novelty item? I mean, it makes the job easier, but is it needed?

What is and what is not a novelty item is a matter of opinion (or LS's overall opinion). Mine decided to assign a job priority to it based on who we felt could most make use of it even if the select number of situations is small. If another LS decides to simply go by "who deserves it more based on participation" then so be it.
While I understand the comment about the Noble's Tunic, I do not personally believe that is a good example. Yes, it is partly novelty, but the case is that many HNM LS get so many shining cloths today that it's not like a once a month item.. Maybe 2-3 times max a month. With cloth, you can get one nearly daily. KB, KB BC, Kirin, Suzaku, rumored on Genbu too. (I've had Suzaku drop claw, but not Genbu drop Cloth).

Secondly, the cloth is used almost primarily on JUST Noble's Tunic. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any other armor that uses it.

With the Herald's Gaiters, they're the only +speed (constant, not powder boots) other than Striders. And they added a lot of the mage jobs. Not this basically allows all jobs to have a + Movement speed item.

My point was that WHMs have performed their job without having a noble's tunic therefore I wouldn't consider it a necessity. It makes the job easier as do other items.
What's more likely to affect the outcome of a fight ??

    MP+17, refresh, cure potency+10%
    or
    MP+12, evasion+8, movement speed+12%

remember you cant evade magic-ga, or thunderbolt.

personally, if you bring up kite fights, its even more useful on a blm so they can run the fuck away. your tank dies in KS99, big deal. anyone who can hold hate can kite for 5 minutes. your blm dies in KS99, and you lost a good chunk of damage, not to mention a 2nd death in that 5 min window renders them useless.

    Crimson Cuisses too.

Some LSes actually just sell their shining cloths. As some WHMs have posted on other forums about their LS doing so instead of giving it to them. Sad, but true...

I used Noble's Tunic as an example and I'm not suggesting that LSes not give it to their WHMs. Probably a bad example, sorry.

Perhaps Crimson Cuisses would be better. After all PLD have it, who do you give it to next? No one? Anyone that can use? RDM? RNG? Simply a "novelty" at this point I suppose from what I can gather here.

Depends what fight and what you've got to work with (in terms of jobs and such). If there is a large enough healing support, I wouldn't expect much to change honestly.

You can outrun magic-ga though you can not evade it. You can not outrun or evade thunderbolt (it's instant right?), but you could get away after no longer being stunned.

It seems there are 4? sides to this discussion:
"Assign job priority and distribute based on points or whatever the LS uses"
"Don't assign job priority since no one needs them and have all ppl that can use lot"
"Don't assign job priority since no one needs them and have most deserving member(s) lot that can use"
"Don't assign job priority and don't give them to anyone, just sell"

I guess I'm with the first one I listed.

    Edit: plurals

I personally think it should go to most deserving members. Same with w. legs. Why should a PLD show up to only Kirin but disappear randomly at other events get w. legs before that DRK, RDM, RNG, (Insert job here) that has attended nearly EVERYTHING?

    I don't think that's the case. A better example.
I joined Wabo maybe a month and a half ago. My primary job has been WHM. I came loaded from previous LS with the tunic and sky zeniths. (My past LS's have died for various reasons.) Anyway, why should I as WHM get these boots over say that MNK, BLM, SMN who's been in the LS nearing a year? Granted I wouldn't turn down the boots, but I'm not going to bully my way up the list saying "I'm WHM! I'm priority!"

This should only be a problem if there is nothing beyond job priority to decide who gets it. My LS uses job priority on items in addition to a point system (based on attendance).

Assuming you joined the LS just recently, everyone would have more points than you. So even if it were WHM > BLM > SMN > MNK, all those people would get it before you until you had comparable amounts of points. Assuming that priority system I just mentioned, a BLM could get it before a WHM if their points exceeded the WHM's by a certain amount (it's all in the rules).

    Edit:
I'm guessing there is some misunderstanding here about job priority and most deserving since my LS's system combines both... and the OP's LS might do something beyond it as well.

    From the many times that I have had to play Taru Wrangler at Kirin fights, I say yes to RDMs getting Crimson Cuises and no to BLMs getting Herald's Gaiters. That +12% movement speed is the only advantage that allows us to keep up a semi-decent refresh cycle. ;_;

I think Black Mage's have a hidden game they like to play at Kirin: who can spread out the most and piss the Red Mage (or even more, the Bard) off. I do so enjoy running from the tunnel all the way to the opposite corner because the Black Mages like playing hide and go seek Refresh edition.

That is the single best argument presented in this thread.

    Straight up tanking ftw.

Then when we run (and yes, we will need to run eventually), you can just follow Kirin and find us.

+8 evasion boost, and not an evasion skill boost is going to do nothing except allow you to evade maybe 1/1000 of the shots the mobs thats you're going to kite/marathon/whatever against.
you're +8 evasion will help you tanking somethings, like...that one NM thats drops the Oliphant that I had a love affair with for a week.
