A normal Shield Bash w/o any "Shield Bash" Enhance gear does roughly 15-25 dmg. Multiple that by 10 and you get hate for doing 150-250 dmg. The fact Shield Bash pulls hate with extra dmg, that's even more hate. Hardly sucky, Kuno.

what's Shield Bash recast? compare to Excalibur added effect, "sucky" sound about right.

But it's aoe stun. The magic -% is nice but not needed on most mobs. Also theres no enmity on it or vit like koeng/kaiser shield. It would be nice if it had secret stuff like the weapons (ie random 3x damage, an add effect on weapon and another on the ws, usually good ws add effect, can extend lvl 3 sc etc).

Now if it had a high proc rate or totally owns for shield blocks (like a ton less dmg taken) that would be hella sweet.

At 75, hell even at 70, you have multiple abilities that allow you pull hate. (i.e. Sentinel, Rampart, Warcry (if you sub war), Shield Bash and Flash+Cures) If you you've played PLD, you'd know the right combination of job abilities to use and in what order.

In EXP parties, the timers are perfectly set up that allows you to cycle thru them and have them ready for next fights.

I've never said that having Aegis would mean you only dependant on Shield Bash for hate.

You don't have to play pld to know what a pld does to get hate. But that doesn't make up for the fact that aegis isn't worth the money in comparison to other relics or other shields.

why would i compare a fully upgraded sword for PLD with a fully upgraded shield for PLD?

maybe because they both cost around the same 18k worth of dynamis currency and chances are most PLDs aren't walking around with 36k worth of currency to do both.

increase Shield Bash damage 10x every 10 minutes or increase Sword melee damage 30x every 10 swings. hmm...

Than we're not talking about how sucky they are, but rather who can afford it.

Obviously Excalibur is the first choice for PLD to upgrade.

Because if it didn't, you could achieve the same effect as he had with 288 shield skill with a shield skill of 0.

It's also like saying you'd notice a difference between damage taken on Tiamat with 120 vit or 160 vit, which you don't. A lot of things in the game have diminishing returns or caps, like haste gear is capped at 50%, -% physical damage (and probably magic damage) is capped at 50%, and the accuracy and attack gained from +weapon skill items is lessend past 200 skill.

I have tanked also stuff with 308-318 shield skill. It increases shield block rate slightly, not significantly. I was using 288 as an example 'cause I at least do not tank stuff with shield torque, buckler earring and gallant leggings, I have better gear for those slots that far outweighs the minor increase in shield blocking you get. 288 is what my skill is at when I am tanking stuff with a "normal" setup.

It would have to increase the shield block rate for a level 4 shield to 1 in 4 to equal the damage reduction of a terra staff. It does not increase it that much.


Also, it must be stressed noone to my knowledge has an Aegis yet, it could still have some kickass hidden effects. I always thought it would have 100% shield block rate with 20% physical damage reduction to make it like an off-hand terra staff, or that it might have hidden effect invincible after shield bash (hey, you need attestation of invulnerablity). Like I said Garcon is hoping the shield bash will recieve a 100x damage modifier to make it equal to the animated shield's shield bash, that it will have increased block rate/damage reduction over ancile, that it may chain shield bash as a WS. All speculation, I am sure SE would not be that kind.

Animated shield is crazy by the way, imo harder than any animated weapon. Completely resists all magic.

by the way, our alliance that killed dynamis lord took animated shield to about 50%

if the final upgrade of shield made you completely invincible to magic like the animated shield is, than i'd say it would be pretty worth upgrading. (sup wyrms in the air)
