What kind of HQ rate would I be looking at for this if I tried to get them crafted? I know absolutely nothing about crafting and cry when I see you guys talking about "tiers" and the like. Just looking at some kind of percentage I should be expecting from a Clothcrafter that had both Smithing and Leather subs leveled (assuming these are both subs).

    Clothcraft (93) Smithing (?) Leathercraft (?)

    Darksteel Sheet is 55 smithing
    Tiger Leather is 61 leather

If you're lucky, 10% at best I believe.

  3. #3

5%~ if the clothcrafter is over 104 with items

  4. #4

The way it works is there are 5 tiers.

Tier 0 - Your skill is below the cap of the item
Tier 1 - Your skill is 0-10 Lv above the cap of the item
Tier 2 - Your skill is 11-30 Lv above the cap of the item
Tier 3 - Your skill is 31-50 Lv above the cap of the item
Tier 4 - Your skill is 51 or more Lv above the cap of the item

This tier is calculated for the main craft as well as each subcraft. The lowest of those values is then chose, and mapped to the following approximate HQ percentage:

    Tier 0 - 0-0.1% chance of HQ
    Tier 1 - 2-3% chance of HQ
    Tier 2 - ~10% chance of HQ
    Tier 3 - ~25% chance of HQ
    Tier 4 - ~50% chance of HQ

The problem with items with lots of subcrafts is that you typically don't know the exact subcraft requirements, so its hard to know even what tier you're in. Let's take Yasha Sune-Ate as an example:

    Clothcraft: 92
    Smithing: ?
    Leathercraft: ?

A clothcrafter can break into Tier 2 for the Clothcraft aspect of it by being 100+3 and having no advanced support. This makes 103-92=11, so Tier 2

    Now we have

    Clothcraft: Tier 2
    Smithing: Tier ?
    Leathercraft: Tier ?

The problem is Tier 2 clothcraft means nothing if either Smithing or Leather is Tier 1, because as stated it chooses the lowest tier for your final value.

Unfortunately, there is really no way to know what the Leather and Smithing requirements are, but they do use Tiger Leather (caps at Leather: 61 I think) and Darksteel Sheet (caps at Smithing 54 I believe), so chances are no matter which craft you put advanced support on, one or the other will still be Tier 1, and you'll end upw ith approximately 2-3% chance of HQ. Regardless, I'd suggest choosing a clothcrafter with the following setup:

    Clothcraft: 100+3
    Leathercraft: 60+1
    Blacksmithing: 60

    Advanced support on Leathercraft.

Edit: It seems there is a lot of uncertainty about the requirements for this item on the web.

http://www.ffrecipe.com (I believe this site over anything else, personally)
    Clothcraft: 92
    Smithing: ?
    Leathercraft: ?

    ffxi.somepage.com
    Clothcraft: 93
    Smithing: ?
    Leathercraft: ?

    mysterytour.com
    Clothcraft: 92
    Leathercraft: ?
    Smithing: not a requirement

    allakhazam
    Clothcraft (93)
    Leathercraft (--)
    Smithing (--)

    This raises some questions:
    1) Is Smithing even a requirement?
    2) Is the Clothcraft cap 92 or 93?

Both of these are very important, but you can answer each of them.

Question 1 - Have your Clothcraft friend talk to the guild NPC and get the recipe. The Guild NPC will tell you exactly what subskills are required (not the level though). If Smithing is not required, you have a much higher chance of being able to break Tier 2, although it's still unclear.

Question 2 - Again, have your Clothcraft friend tlak to the guild NPC and get the recipe. Where it appears on the list is very important, since the items are ordered according to their level. If you see something like

    random Lv. 92 item
    Yasha Sune-Ate
    random Lv. 92 item
    random Lv. 93 item

you know for sure cloth cap is 92. If you see

    random Lv. 93 item
    Yasha Sune-Ate
    random Lv. 93 item

you know it's 93 . If you see

    random Lv. 92 item
    Yasha Sune-Ate
    random Lv. 93 item

then the question still remains unanswered. This is important though, because if the cap is 93 you need 104 for Clothcraft Tier 2, and that means advanced support MUST go to Clothcraft, and cannot be used for Leathercraft or Smithing.

Cliffs notes: Either 2-3%, or 10%. Leaning towards 2-3%, but some questions need to be answered about this particular synth first.

I am 100/60/60 and I would suggest to you it is around 2-4% range. It is definately not a 10% synth, but the post above has alot of accurate info in it.

Wow, thanks for such a comprehensive answer divisortheory.

Teir 0 is actually ~1%. Good luck.

Yea well, I would have been much happier not typing so much lol. Subcraft items just suck like that, and now you know why a lot of people spend millions of gil levelling up crafts on a mule JUST to test the particular subcraft requirements of a particular item. Because if you can have some weird combination of skills & advanced support to break a certain tier, your HQ rate spikes quite a bit.

What about HQ+2 or HQ+3? What percentages do they have at various tiers?

  10. #10

On non-desynthesis recipes that can go hq2/hq3 the approximate distribution of HQs is

    hq1: 75%
    hq2: 20%
    hq3: 5%

  11. #11

I think they nerfed the HQ3 rate back quite awhile ago HQ3 was more like 10% for me, but now its 5% like you stated.

would agree with that for the most part - alch. consumables don't hq3 as often as they seemed to 4months ago.

lol, I'm only 52 Alchemy and I HQ3'd 2/4 goblin masks the other day (desynth)

That made me think HQ rate for 1 and 3 were the same

  16. #16

Desynth result distribution is totally different than synth.

I checked for the Yasha Sune-Ate in the Clothcraft Guild.

    It goes...

    Sha'ir Turban
    Yasha Sune-ate
    Errant Hat

So that pins it at 92ish, IMO.

Anyway, I would definitely say it has Smithing sub. This is because the other Yasha gear I have done (Samue and Hakama) have provided Smithing skillups (or, with the Samue, massive breaks) at level 37 Smithing. So what this means is that if the Hakama gave me skillups on breaks @ 37 (which it did) it means the cap for it would be at the highest 42...

Of course the Samue broke for me plenty with no skill at 38 skill. This again lends very credible belief for me as to FFRecipie's correct marking of the subskills.

IMO, a Clothcraft with subs leveled can easily break the first HQ tier.

    ~92+11=103
    ~41+11=52
    ~44+11=55

Good luck on getting one. I know that it took a month of camping the AH for the Kejusu Satins I wanted for all the Hakamas/Samues I did. Good thing the Satins are not a critical fail (unlike Raxa ; .

    Take care,
    Kriz

Desynthing is a different ball of yarn though. HQ and fail rates are inflated when you desynth suff.

I get better desynth rates by not being too far above cap.

Therefore, i have about 80% more success desynthing rainbow capes than i do lvl 5 robes from the NPC.
