Amazing how many people still don't know that trick, and they don't believe you even after you explain it.
I never rode the boat between selbina and mhaura very often until recently (after the patch adding the skeleton NMs).

Anyway, this is an interesting trick, but I don't understand how anyone noticed a correlation between the two events. If it were me, a door not being targetable for a while would likely just be considered lag.

Though that would be funny if someone MrArgus'd their way onto the pirate ship. But I don't suppose you could attack the pirates pre-emptively.

rundown of the pirates (for those who dont know )

    The trick ....

When the boat begins to fade, and your loading onto the actual trip, keep a close eye on the screen (some use a sneak trick, but this is easier) When you START loading, if there are NO pirates comming, you will load almost instantly onto the boat. If they ARE comming, there will be a 3-5 second black screen before you load. This trick is 100% accurate thus far

    Now for the NMs

Like the screenshot shows, the middle pirate must wear a vermillion cloak in order to spawn the pirate NM. Depending on the trip (Blackbeard is on the Mhaura to Selbina ferry, Silverhook is on the Selbina to Mhaura Ferry) determines which pirate you get. They may not spawn in the first wave. If they dont, a ship wight will spawn. For the remainded of the trip, he is a place holder for the NM. Kill him when you see him The Pirate NMs are both mage type, around lvl 65.
Thus far from what I can tell (I have camped both lots of times, finally got both clubs) Silverhook is more of the caster type (casting flood, waterga III and water IV) while silverhook is more of a rdm type with no enhancing spells (although people have confirmed he will cast waterga III as well). (EDIT UPDATE* Blackbeard is blm type as well. Last night he cast Burst and Freeze on us, and my friend says he casts Aeroga III as well). Both have a 2 hour (manafont I am assuming) and can be soloed by a WHM/NIN with plenty of yagudo drinks and potions. Take 3-4 if you want a easy time. I duoed blackbeard with a DRK/THF and myself (WHM/RDM) and barely defeated it. Silverhook was beat by myself, 75 BLM and 70ish THF (me and the blm died, the thf killed him)

Hope this helps, have fun :D

Once when I was camping for my AF katana's on boat, a pirate ship came( i felt that that I was in Pirates of the Carribean ) :D

Defeated the skeletons with ease, we were 1 pld, 1 nin, 1 rdm/nin, blm, and whm.

I dont mean to burst your bubble, but the regular skeletons are lvl 25 tops. I murder them on whm/rdm. OR did you infact fight and kill either silverhook or blackbeard?

About 1/3 on Blackbeard, Silverhook beat me down before I realized his incredible -Ga like ability. They're sort of difficult to kill solo as a SMN. Poor Titan had no idea what was happening and I couldn't get a spirit out in time to save myself. Fight went something like this:

    Pirates! Whoa! Pirates with gil!

    *Silverhook appears on deck*

    Titan: LOL

    Silverhook: Thundaga threeeehi, Titan!

    *Stoneskin, Blink vanish*

    Titan: Burns! Wan go home!

    Silverhook: Thundaga III!

    Titan: me no feel good

    *Titan is defeated by Silverhook*

    *Namfoodle looks at Silverhook, shocked!*

    *Silverhook readies Hell Slash*

    *Namfoodle is defeated by Silverhook*

Never so embarassed in my life. I solo quite a bit as a SMN and I don't wear Gigant Mantle, Taru JSE, just so I can die to a stupid skeleton because I just don't have enough HP. Sadly, everyone I talk to has the opposite story: Silverhook easy, Blackbeard impossible to gauge.

From my experience, if there are people fishing on board who are high enough level, you will see them start catching Sea Zombie's if the Pirates are coming. Many of the people fishing have confirmed this.

Um, I dont understand why you dont use ramuh on those guys. Chaotic strike has added effect stun. Could use it to stun the big spells anyway

I did try to solo silverhook as a whm/smn. 1 minute into the fight, hes a 89% and I am out of mp and at 115 hp

whm/nin onry (need drinks and the like)

I always lol'ed seeing whm/blm or some other random sj there solo camping it; hell slash > 400-500dmg alone, and takes just about the entire duration of the boat ride from spawn time to bludgeon it to death as a whm.

I like the thong. Also, Titan has much nicer breath (just look at those teeth).

Also, 1.5 times damage multiplier on bones and the damage the mob will take will typically stop a mob casting anyway. It's essentially relying on the same thing. But yeah, maybe i'll try Ramuh next time and compare.

That is, if I ever manage to play again.

Just fought Silverhook again and got the club (got both now!). He was way easier this second time. He only one shotted titan once. Titan's attacks were averaging about 1200 per mountain buster. I didn't even think to use Ramuh, sorry!

    Been camping since about 8am. It's now 7pm and I wonder why I don't have a life.

When i want to do this NM, i change from whm to smn, get 2 yag drinks to be safe, hop on the boat, check for pirates every 15mins and do my homework He's how it goes.

    Downloading data...

    /ma "Sneak" <me>
    ...A command error ocurred.

^ See that like 5 times, then you'll see your casting bar on the black screen casting sneak, but nothing in your chatbox.

Release carbuncle, get near one of the doors to the captain, summon titan, earthen ward. Wait a bit, summon garuda, aerial armor. Rest to full, put on your mp gear, rest more, summon carby.

Cast sneak, and keep dia ready, pray nobody is camping against you.

Dia your NM. Carby runs after it and stops it, run below deck and go back as far as you can.

    Release carbuncle, cast ramuh.

Chaotic strike as soon as ramuh has hate, make sure to run up to your NM so it doesnt move, should you have hate. 2hr, pop a yag drink.

Run above deck to the tip of the boat, keep your BP timer open. If ramuh has +50% health, and there is >30seconds on your BP timer, run down and chaotic strike again. If you dont have >30 seconds on your timer left, wait until you have 20 seconds left, release ramuh, recast him.

Repeat until you kill it, its really easy

Ramuh is the best choice to fight these NMs because they cast thunder and water type magic, ramuh resists both. Ramuh's chaotic strike is also one of the stronger/reliable BP's, its damage type is blunt (good against skeles), and the added effect of stun wrecks caster mobs.

    Happy camping~
