I dunno if it has been confirmed yet or not but its rumored that shield bash has an additional effect: petrify. When you look at the legend of the shield itself and the medusa face in the center, its pretty viable.

By the same token, I suppose because of the stylish M on the arms of Hume-F RSE, you can go Majin?

Might be onto something. Usually FF will name something after mythology, and Im surprised they kept everything about the Aegis pretty tight with the story of it, even with the head in the middle.

In Greek myth the hero Perseus kept the head of the gorgon Medusa in a special bag. He used the head on many adventures. In the Apollodorus (1st century AD) version of the myth Perseus used the head to turn king Polydectes and his friends to stone. He gives the gorgon head to Athena, and Hermes inserts the head in the middle of her shield.

So basically what it says, is When medusa was killed, they stuck her head on the Aegis shield. Pretty on par with the current relic shield(has a face) and the add effect petrify wouldnt be surprising if they stuck to the shield's story.

Also interesting about the Aegis, is before medusa's head was put on it, it was a goatskin shield of Zeus, anyone remember Almathea? You need one of her skins to make the shield upgrade, kinda like the Aegis.

Another website describes the shield as having magic shield defence too, when Zeus was using it.

Having the only item in the game that can Petrify, eh...i dont believe it. SE would have to dumb it down hardcore against NMs and shit because how easy would Fafnir or Tiamat be with a free Petrify every 5 minutes?

Honestly i think Shield Bash on this thing is just enhanced to like 600 damage, but here's one thing...maybe it deals extra damage during a lightning-based SC and does like 600 MORE damage? All speculation but i doubt Petrify comes from the Shield Bash.

I don't think slamming the shield on top of a mob would petrify it ;x

Maybe it has a chance of petrifying when you get a shield block? In the animation you put the shield in front of you to block an attack, would make sense if the face petrified the mob.. more sense than bashing it in the face, imo.

like i said earlier, they should give you a new ability, make it say 20 mins, where you hold the shield out and the face screams at the mob, and give that the petrify effect

Most HNM can't be bashed in the face anyways to be able to petrify it!
