on Tiamat, Onryu and Jimmy, it is the best hate locking combo so our BLMs can rip them apart. We still kite Vrtra with a NIN/WAR and 2 PLD/WARs

Look at my sig, both war and pld at 75.


War/Whm is a support tank to a pld/war. Think of it as heavy armor whm. We do not use any special gear. With whm SJ and MP merits we have enough mana between the 2 war/whms to keep the tank pt at full health. War/whms use koenig and all the normal VIT gear or HP gear depending on the tank. The only change is magic damage reduction gear when the wrym is flying. We do not tank with war/whm alone. The pld is the main tank, with 2 war/whms in the tank pt with a whm/smn, red/smn and brd. Even without the relic horn this pt is almost unstoppable.The key is having a tank pt that is independant from needing outside curing and curing from the war/whms curaga's and curaga 2's in conjunction with the pld hate ablities, it is rare that we have hate issues. Now we only this set up on very limited HNMs, Tiamat and Jimmy. The system works exetremely well since our LS is high damage base, we are able to let our BLMs and DD go to town and rip Tiamat apart.

I still fail to see how a WAR/WHM with MP merits and koenig gear isn't a PLD wannabe. A pld will have more tools to get hate with, more MP, more everything. Why oh why. Please explain.

LS leader on my server from a different LS, started as a RNG, then got WAR to 75. he decided that he wanted to do PLD as next job and wanted to be a tank, so had all his gear for pld when it was still like 50s. They didnt have many other tanks, so when they went to fafnir he always came as WAR/PLD (until his pld was 75). Interesting Combo, and works pretty well, except for the lack of MP.

It is two different styles of tanking, passive and agressive, We only need 1 pld to hold hate 90% of the time, the pld is the agressive tank, using JA's. The War/whm is just a 2nd and 3rd passive tank that uses the limited JA's in conjuction with the magic curing to create hate. The war/whm will only have hate on a limited basis. The role of the PLD/WAR is too tank, the role of the WAR/WHMS is to keep the tank PT alive through the AOE damage of Tiamat and Jimmy, when we hit with Firaga 3 we have up to 4 people in the tank pt that can case up to curaga 2 with DS. With this set up we can kill Tiamat in 46 minutes. Due to tha massive amounts of hate our Tank PT creates. Also we are indepentant from outside healing.

One edit, PLD is the corner stone of our hate, one JImmy our PLD DC'd on the way and we tried to kill it with 2 WAR/WHMs only and wiped at 2-3% due to the lack of hate control. So again the 2 tanks are different and the PT does not work without the PLD to be the actual tank.

The extra curagas seem to make sense, that's more than a PLD can do if they're planning on being healer only and not a tank. Being a WAR just gives them survivability, and with 6mp/tick refresh I'm sure MP isn't bad at all.

How does it not make sense? Back up your statement, I can back up that our tank pt works well enough for us to kill Tiamat in 46 minutes? How does this not make sense?

I am not saying it is the best and end all strat, I just posting what works well for us, in having fewer people die, more hate control and faster kills on Tiamat, Onryu and Jimmy.

Ok before I continue to lol at the valkurm war/whm setup, I'll just say that relying on ONE tank throughout is somewhat stupid. As he said, the PLD d/ced and they all wiped. With all the crap thats been going on with the servers, it wouldnt be wise to put all your hopes on one man to ensure your victory. What would you do if your PLD was killed by an act of god? Wipe then lol at your WAR/WHMs?

Not only that, but I'm curious as to how a WAR/WHM can do more with his MP than say, a PLD/WHM or PLD/NIN would. I must be missing something, or WAR really needs to be nerfed lol. I'll just assume you guys lack the PLD tanks therefore you've resorted to valk tactics, but of course if it works for you then all the power to you, I just know if I ever suggested this or even showed this to any HNM LS I know of they would laugh in my face, which is what I'm doing to you right now :3

Backup healer and Backup tank in one. Pld/whm doesn't have voke, Pld/nin doesn't have curaga. With the power to tank with AA just as well as a Pld, but at the same time be a better healer of a main tank. Whats not to understand, its a radical but sound tactic.
